  1. By the way, I'm wanting to try Olympus (again) next year, Look forward to a post in the "Climbing Partners" forum if you are interested in going and sharing the cost!
  2. This was what I was looking for I want to go back and spend time on Mount Olympus and not have to worry about packing the extra food and fuel necessary for such a trip. Being able to spend a few extra days on the mountain when the weather is bad and waiting for a clearing would be reason enough to hire an outfitter to carry the extra load to the high horse camp at the end of the Hoh river trail. Thanks Graupel! I'll toast you and the info tonight.
  3. Does anyone have any information or practical experience using pack animals to help transport gear to the base of a climb (base camp) here in the pacific northwest? What are the environmental issues? What are the national park rules/issues? What are the national forest rules/issues? Did you use horses or llamas? Are llamas actually less damaging to the terrain than a horse? What outfits exist that provide these services and at what cost? As a working professional it would be nice to get the approach on a remote climb over as fast as possible and spend more time on the climb and high on the mountains. Anyone with actual experience out there have a comment?
  4. Have you tried quitting work. Then everyday would be a weekend!
  5. It would be nice to have an easier way to insert photos into a trip report.
  6. WOW! I didn't expect to receive so many helpful responses! Thanks to everyone for their advice. My goal has has only been to add about 15 lbs of muscle overall. (From 185 to 200) Most of the reason is for increased strength, but I also want to look good naked (to keep my wife satisfied ) I'll be looking more into the "supersets" and negative resistance mentioned above. One last question. Does anyone have any advice on the benefits of consulting a personal trainer? How much does one normally cost/charge? How do I know if I am "hiring" a good one? Again, thanks much for all the advice and humor!
  7. Also want to stay in top shape for mountain rescue. (I volunteer with Olympic Mountain Rescue)
  8. Actually, that is what I have been doing, and my strength has greatly improved, (Increased my bench-press, curls, shrugs) but I still have seen no increase in weight or mass.
  9. Yes, a see-food diet is where I see food and I eat it. Want to get bigger, stronger, faster, etc. etc. So far all I have is a single page flyer from a local hospital on how to gain weight healthfully. Anyone with practical experience to share with me would be most appreciated.
  10. Anybody know of a good way to bulk up and build more muscle without using supplements. I'm 6'4" and 185 lbs and have been weightlifting and on a "see-food" diet for a year now and haven't put on a pound. I do have an active lifestyle and 3 kids to chase after, so that is part of my problem. Any ideas would be helpful. (I've already tried beer and pretzels , but seriously, any ideas on how to gain weight healthfully?)
  11. For a change from Carbs to protein, you might try the starkist tuna that now comes in a foil pouch instead of the can. less water and easier to pack in and out. Also comes in several "flavors"
  12. I was up on the Muir Snowfield with my son on Memorial Day weekend (Friday and Saturday) and the RMI folks were marching in lockstep up the slopes. Also saw lots of people below Panorama point practicing climbing skills. As for the weather, I have found that the MT Rainier recreational forcast available by navigating the RNP website to be very accurate. 16 trips to the mountain and they've been right 13 out of 16 of those visits. Good luck on your trip. Hope you have a blast!!!
  13. I vote for myself for the position of emperor!
  14. These are great, got any more of them? Lacking humor at work this wednesday and need a laugh!
  15. I was checking out the boards for the latest information on Muir as I hope to take my son to camp muir for his first trip on the mountain. One of the first steps I made was to ensure we had ALL the appropriate clothing, food, and gear necessary to safely wait out a storm. For a great list, check out Gators climbing guide to mount rainier.
  16. check out this link http://www.komotv.com/stories/36998.htm for the latest information. Makes for interesting reading.
  17. I've been with olympic mountain rescue for over a year now. Some thoughts before you join are: Will your work support you leaving for two or three days at a time, maybe 3 or 4 times a year? If yes, then go for it! It seems if you are asking, then you already have the necessarry skills needed to join, but the training is great, and since everyone is a volunteer they all want to be there. Lets face it, if you try it out and decide either you like it or hate it, at least you won't have any regrets later about not having had a chance.
  18. Two of the best I've seen recently on the same truck in Silverdale: Left side of truck: "Mean People Suck!" Right side of truck: "Nice People Swallow!"
  19. Depending on when you go (weekend or non-weekend) and what route you want to climb will help you determine if you need to make a reservation (see links on Mark Husbands reply) or if you can just show up and register in person. Make a call to the information center at longmire and the rangers will probably have an answer for you
  20. robertM. My climbing buddy and I are looking to take on curtis ridge over the memorial day holiday. Any information you get (if you go sooner) would be greatly appreciated. If you are going on memorial day weekend, we'll see you there!
  21. All those things at once, or individually?
