Some of the biggest strides in institutionalizing the health and safety of prostitutes have made by sex-workers unions. Here's a link to one of the largest. Lots of info here.

I'm not sure that "voluntary" can be defined as something someone does when starving to death is the likely alternative.

Well, since I often hear people say "things will get worse before they get better", I figured I'd hasten America's already rapid descent into chaos by trying to get another Republican elected. Then this whole Bush endorsement thing. Remember, exact opposite. Can't go wrong.
-
Bush Endorses McCain. Since doing the exact opposite of what Bush would do seems to be the best course of action, after careful consideration, I've decided not to vote for John McCain. Kind of like that Seinfeld episode when George gets the job with the Yankees.

It's just that I would think, given your fire and brimstone rantings when one single individual threatens to take a particular action, you might muster a little bit more than this meepish admonishment for a media demogogue inciting thousands of his followers to take the same action en masse. But hey, partisan hypocrisy's all in a day's work around here, right?

Perhaps the whole "bring the troops home NOW" thing does need to be rethought. Just kidding, just kidding.

That's it?! That's all? After all the storm and fury for two fucking days about a single individual treasonously bringing down the entire system! Visigoths and Vandals at the gates! Cunt! The end of democracy! After all that, this is what we're hearing? Hold on, I'm sorry, MaryLou of CC.com equals Rush Limbaugh? Nationally syndicated with a bully pulpit reaching millions of listeners, with the ability to mobilize thousands? Equals? If there was ever any doubt before that you two are the biggest wankers around, your "apology" cinches it. Thanks.

do you really think he is a "marxist" who wants to establish a "marxist" government? i'm not so sure.... maybe we can ask him: hey prole, are you a "marxist" who wants to establish a "marxist" form of government here in the US? Oh hey, thanks for asking! No, I am not a Marxist. I think Marx had some very good ideas and many bad ideas. In particular, he had a very powerful understanding of capitalism as a unique and historical system with a logic quite different from previous economic forms with class relations and the struggle between classes as a driving force in history. Giving capitalism and class relations primacy in analyses of contemporary societies provides some very good (but not the only) tools for understanding how the world actually works. It's a materialist and empirical position, meaning it takes the world as it is as we can see it. Many philosophers and political actors have elaborated on Marx's understanding of capitalist society as experienced, some good, some bad. Sorry to disappoint but all I can really say is that I find many of the marxian contributions to the study of contemporary political economy pretty compelling. As far as my own prescriptive politics are concerned, I think Marx's recognition that social outcomes are not determined through utopian visioning or the implementation of blueprints for social engineering but rather through the process of political struggle for justice, dignity, and the realization of human potential itself, is really all one needs. Such ideas run counter to what the mainstream thinks Marx actually said and thought and I think many would be surprised to learn that what was done in his name is contradictory to much of his philosophical thought and political advocacy. These were positions Marx was already dealing with with his "followers" when he famously said, "I am not a Marxist." I really can't say I'm much for anything that's passed for Marxist thus far much less anything Communist. My own political sympathies trend more toward anarchism as far as political organization and praxis is concerned.

I'm not interested in your racist fantasies. Get help buddy, soon. Really.

wow. harsh. antagonistic. very very angry. I'd say another tragedy is that there are people so stupid that they cannot see that "Marxism" was and is, for the thinking person, mainly descriptive, not prescriptive. it's an immensely rich avenue of inquiry and discourse. where i fall off is when people endorse its barely formed prescriptive theoretics, without acknowledging its tremendous short-comings and misapplications. Don't bother. wouldn't know a marxian analysis from a hole in the ground, much less what you're talking about. Pretend your writing for the History Channel or one of those little evangelical comic books. A little reading for you Prole. Choke on it. Huh. Didn't really see anything in there about what Marx thought about the prospects of a communist revolution in Russia. Maybe you could track that down for us and make a report. I think it's ironic that the people who burned those McMansions down were probably green anarchists and hate Communists more and know more about them than you do.
