Surely there is a labour code of some sort, that defines minimum wage, maximum hours in a work day, minimum age etc. What state are we talking about here?
Are you not supposed to get two weeks notice of a layoff, or 2 weeks severance if no notice is given? Is there no labour code where you live? Don't let this pass without at least lodging a complaint somewhere. Definitely do as Billcoe suggests and warn the people that are making money for this company what happened. Would be nice if they didn't show up for work on Monday morning.
