Chugach. Too bad you've made me an enemy, John. We could go climb that together. You've got my number, give me a call if you change your mind. I've got four days off next week. -Clint

not to flame you, ScaredSilly, but I would totally disagree with you on your one shovel theory. That leaves no contingency plan for when your one shovel breaks, gets buried or lost, stolen, or when shit really hits the fan and camp needs to be constructed quickly. Bring two shovels. The extra weight won't be an issue and it will be far more efficient to have two rather than trying to save 24 ounces by only bringing one.

Passward, this is a good start to a discussion on Denali gear, but you should check out this thread http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/656499/Must_Have_Denali_Gear#Post656499 It is loaded with TONS of great advice on all aspects of things to bring/prepare for on Denali. I think a VERY useful tip is to read everything possible on the subject. Here is a personal list of books to check out and read in full to maximize your chances of success (and survival) on Denali. -Surviving Denali by Jonathan Waterman -Minus 148 by Art Davidson -In the Shadow Of Denali - Waterman -Accidents in North America Mountaineering (anything on Denali) Good luck man!

I have a pair of these skis. They work great for general touring where there is a good amount of up and down but lots of lull in between. Slap a pair of silvretta 500s on them and you'll be stoked. If the angle kicks up, you can throw some skins on them and they will do great. You do sacrifice a little glide at times due to the scales but I think you'll like them! Ultimately you still get way more glide than with a pair of skins on all the time.

my leashless rig is almost exactly like Alpine Dave's, except I use the little BD Micron biners (lighter, but not rated) because my old Vipers don't have a hole to clip into when the fang is installed. With new tools though, the leashless system would certainly hold body weight. I would argue that the swivel is clutch, especially for alpine.

Heading down to the valley for two weeks in early october. Looking for partners! This will be my first time to the Valley so looking more for cragging and day long multi-pitch climbs. I've got a few friends heading there, but looking for others to climb with as well.

sucks=weather... our real aim here is to climb cracks... So, if the weather isn't cooperating in Squamish, where else would you guys suggest going? I've done a fair amount of cragging at Tieton.
-
yeah and if it sucks in squamish we can head south.

Hey guys, I'm looking to redeem my air miles in the next few weeks and want to go climbing. I've got a buddy down in Vancouver and was wondering how the weather will be in late September to mid October. Also, does anyone know of a good cheap easy way to get from SeaTac to Vancouver? Bus, train, rideshare? If the weather isn't going to be great I'm open to other ideas. My buddy isn't opposed to traveling either, but with Squamish right there it seems natural to just climb there.

it costs a lot, but Arcteryx's new Dually Belay Parka is super warm, lighter than the DAS, and even more water resistant than the DAS. I picked one up and can't wait for it to get cold enough for me to use it.

atta boy Merle! And it's Justin, not Justine!

Clucking (Not necessarily safe for work, but funny as hell)

I just got back from a three week trip in the Revelations. We used the firstlight on a three night assault of a ridge and squeezed three people in it, rather comfortably actually. There was some crystal build up, but that happens with all tents. 5 Stars

The Tooth Traverse. That would be unreal.

Fred found two partners and extends his thanks!

I heard an old story about Sheldon forgetting to pick up some hunters. A week after they were supposed to be picked up they were spotted briefly in Talkeetna looking haggard and pissed off. The next day Sheldon's plane was found in his hanger, full of bullet holes.

ya'll thing the aether 85 is a good enough?
-
So what's your thought on a pack? I have an Osprey Aether 85 that I know is big enough, but it doesn't leave much room for extra stuff. Anyone have any thoughts on this as opposed to going for the mega dumptruck pack, like a Denali Pro or Crescent 110?

Fred Beckey is seeking a team or partner for a trip to remote Alaska. PM if interested.

Hey gang. I'm doing my senior project on the relationship between social networking websites and information gathering (international, national, political news). If you are a member of any social networking site, would you please take my survey? It will take less than two minutes to complete and is totally anonymous. Help me graduate college, please! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Avc7TOjysQCYxVdq_2fdgnWA_3d_3d Even if you don't take part in social networking, go ahead and take the poll anyways. It will give me a higher N, which I need. The N>250 and I have about 65 right now. Click here to go to survey
