I'm in Alaska...I'm used to long approaches! Haha. I do agree though Bug, that only means we are that much more likely to have that side of the mountain to ourselves. -

No one has any info on this? wow. -
Severe avalanche danger pushed it back to mid june. I've been climbing other peaks in the chugach...4 in the last 8 days actually (Suicide, O'Malley, Near, and Wolverine). My partner and I are going to check conditions this next week and possibly give it a go next weekend or the one after that.

why are you armchair climbers even arguing about this? It's stupid and worthless?
-
What do you mean by YOU rockclimbers? Is that some kind of offhand remark?

Oh Rainier, how I miss you! -
Climbed the last half of the season leashless with my new Black Diamond Vipers. Nothing short of an orgasm on ice, but still want leashes for those harder, longer climbs for the upcoming season. If you've got some, I'll take 'em. PM me.

My buddy down there in WA said that he saw on the news that two people died on Rainier sometime last week. I haven't heard anything about this and thought I would have heard something about it here if it happened. I know that two twin brothers (54 years old each) died up here on Denali last week. My friend who works for Talkeetna Air Taxi had to deal with the bodies and she said "I've never seen bodies so broken and black before." For some reason I think my friend is talking about this, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any info? EDIT: Nevermind, I saw the thread in the General section just after posting this. Sorry everybody.

Awesome! Thanks for the info so far guys! It is really helpful. It will help me plan my route/camp locations better. Just so I know for sh!ts and giggles, how many miles does it average out to be? Not like it really matters. I'd assume it's 70-80 at least? Ironically (but luckily) enough, there is hardly any info about this hike when I search for it in google.

BOO YAH!

This guy who climbs a lot also insists on using one of these while sitting around the house watching tv. It works your lungs like the altitude would. I think it's a great idea. You are out of breath in a minute or two, and you can feel how it works.

Awesome! Thanks DKemp! Yeah we did Carrie last summer and we saw SO much wildlife. I've never seen anything like it. We saw 3 bears, several goats and deer (they came right up to our tent), all kinds of birds, marmots, frogs, etc. It was incredible. goat in camp at Heart Lake http://image12.webshots.com/12/7/11/14/170371114fnLKRX_ph.jpg Deer in camp http://image14.webshots.com/15/7/13/57/170371357wjCBpo_ph.jpg Mr Goat up close http://image14.webshots.com/15/7/13/88/170371388OOvDuH_ph.jpg

Ironically enough now, this makes me want to do the Lib Ridge even more. Very good read.

I did Mount Carrie last year from Sol Duc. We camped at Heart Lake and my buddy told me about the Bailey Traverse and how cool it would be to do a 7 day trek. I want to do it this summer but need more information. My Olympic Park book is down in Washington. Who's done it or has any info. Let me know what you thought of it, where you camped after Heart lake, etc. thanks

Mount Yukla, 7500+ feet. One of the hardest mountains in the Chugach. Climbing this face this weekend. SICK! Anyone here ever done it? Should be balls to the wall!
-
are these guys doing it right now? I'm looking for a TR when they get back!
-
if they were REALLY cool they'd tapdance all the way up! ...Wusses!

When I did the Gibraltar Ledges about 3 weeks ago, I spoke with another group who was up there. They were doing the ID and said it was heavily crevassed and they had to hug the right hand side most of the way up. Rainier has received quite a large helping of snow and storms lately, so the conditions could have improved. PM Mike and ask him, I'm sure he's got up to the minute information.

if i were you, i'd be up at 1, climbing by 2. That would give you about 5 hours before the sun was up at full force. Especially this year, lib ridge seems to be an area that will be prone to lots of rockfall and harsh conditions. I've never been on it though, I'm just talking from what I've heard and learned about the route.
-
thanks dan, I totally would, but unfortunately I'm packing my bags right now for my 9:30 pm flight back up to AK. I'll check you guys out this summer when I come back down though. Climb on!
-
yeah man, i still just can't believe that incredible weather window we got out of nowhere in late March. Amazed!

Leg cramps while climbing (hamstrings and quads)

yeah this is what i did and it helped. I had a nut-rich gorp that I ate the entire second say and it seemed to help, along with dried banana chips. thanks for all the input!
