  1. It's just unfair to rebuild in the same area and invite a fairly poor population core back in, claiming it's safe again, when really it is not. Creating an elaborate pump system to keep back the sea just to because people want to live "right there" is ludicrous.
  2. Earthquakes maybe, in California. But natural disasters that occur on 1000 - million year cycles really don't compare to living below sea level, on the coast, in an area that has devastating storms on a predictable annual basis. This was an inevitable situation, predicted by many. To rebuild everyone's homes in exactly the same place as some sort of act of defiance is just stupid.
  3. and they f'ing rebuild in the exact same place again. I'm willing to have my taxes pay to help these people but NOT to rebuild in the same damn place with the attitude of we'll show nature who's in charge.
  4. I wonder what rumr has to say...maybe.......FRESHIEZ?!

  6. A bio advisor once mused that the growing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is way more terrifying than any threat of nuclear war.

  10. Walken's career reached its culmination in the legendary theatrical performance A View to a Kill, paired up with such thespians as Grace Jones and the like.
  11. That ewe's face definitely has the "come hither" look to it.
  12. have they drained the lake or something? Imagine the piles of starbucks memorabilia. Where is this railroad cut exactly?
  13. You state this as if it were fact. I think a "seem to be" needs to be added. I just think you need to tax the hell out of SUVs. Money talks. Either at the car dealership, or make gas $5/gallon at least for non-commercial purposes. People will always speed, it's next to unenforceable. Some people consider speeding tickets the price of the luxury to speed.
  14. While the idea is great as compromise legislation that could be passed into law, it would be interesting to see if it was actually enforced on the road. It's interesting to note that many SUV's are already breaking the law due to excess curb weight in some city neighborhoods. I do see a lot of used SUV's for sale around town these days.
  15. I am a pretty hardcore biker/commuter and I am so, so happy bikes are not allowed in wilderness areas. Keep 'em out.

    Question

fern had the very first page top featuring a rodent. imorris developed it into the common annoyance that it is today.
  17. whatever rookie. just because you can't find inspiration doesn't mean it is not there.
  18. Sux. I was hoping they should bring back the entertaining walk-through colon exhibit to seattle. You could take a dump on the floor at the end of the tour to add to the realism.
  19. if you don't have the keys for those canopy locks, a ski wicket works just as well.
  20. only if your tummy is the shape of florida
  21. yes, that is moral decay in a paranoid society
  22. I guess I've seen one too many avalanche accident "analysis" online which are almost unbearable to read, even with "industry experts" involved in the discussion. Just have noticed a lot of solo climbers on here doing similar things to this (and much more). After some personal experience, I wanted to remind that in accidents while "4th-classing", the climber (who's fall is quite frequently fatal) is the one who gets off easy. In my opinion it's not wrong at all to do this and is completely necessary at times, but I'd wager a lot of the younger people (and older I suppose) have not fully evaluated the consequences.
  23. If you were not there and you use the words to the effect of "should have", you are an armchair critic. 4th class w/bad consequences is soloed all the time, often by people out on their own. Some forget the risk they are taking in this terrain, but it is often an acceptable risk to them, or so they think. The key is to understand the consequences of your mistakes, both for your body and the many people that care about you.
  24. I personally would not take a buggy to wa pass.
  25. you should get a fixed-gear rather than a single-speed, get a couple of tattoos on your calves, put on some jean cutoffs, and you're set. Oh wait you have to scowl a lot too and carry around a vhf radio.
