Poison Ivy/Oak? in Wash Pass and/or Leavenworth?
Greta replied to MountaingirlBC's topic in Climber's Board
This IS true. Poison oak triggers an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. People can become more sensitve with each exposure. I am exquisitively sensitive to the stuff, having been exposed on numerous occasions as a kid. The way it works is that urushiol reacts with the proteins in your skin and alters them in such a way that your body sees them as foreign. Then the immune system basically attacks your own body. Your skin acts as a barrier to most polar substances, but urushiol is of just the right polarity to pass through the stratum corneum, given enough time. This is why you can avoid a reaction if you are able to wash with soap and water soon after exposure. Citation--> Unless you happen to be a freak. My mother can eat the stuff as a salad, all thanks to an extensive exposure as a child. Not sure about the mechanism, but could be a version of acquired immunity, similar to being vaccinated. It is more likely that one will develop a sensitivity to the vile weed, however. No mom/freak jokes please. She has a club foot and ill probably lose it -

That is indeed, ivy/oak, in case it hadnt already done been confirmed Im concerned that nobody has scolded you for scratching. Well, Im here to tell you that you shouldnt. If it spreads to any "sensitive" areas, mainly your ass, vaginal area, eyes or mouth, get yerself on a prednisone taper. And for godsakes, wash all the clothes from your weekend extravaganza in hot water and technu, or you will continue to innoculate yourself and others. nip that shite in the bud. -
pffftt.. Its only possible for non-pussies. Never met a single bellevue resident in the lineup for some reason. ....with the exception of Seaside point. ehem, yes. I would highly recommend seaside for all of your surfing adventures. Seaside's the place to be alright

I was up on the S spur rt this past weekend, and with the nice weather, the snow was soft enough that crampons were not necessary, and there was a well established boot pack line the whole way. If you get a stretch of colder weather prior to your trip, it might help to have them. I would recommend bringing crampons and an axe if for no other reason, the s. spur would serve as a straight forward, relatively safe route to teach your son about crampon and axe use (self arrest, not stepping on your inner pant cuff, avoiding self-inflicted pneumothoracese whilst glissading, etc.). In july, there will be plenty of folks around to chat with if you have questions yourself. Have fun!

"It kind of happened. It was a gradual thing," she said of her mountaineering exploits. I see rocket science in her future

or Sacajawea. These two are probably your best bet for finding reliable beta as they are the most popular peaks in the Caps.

Just saw a guy in the ED that had been injecting milk and beer into his scrotum. I asked him "why milk?" It had been going fine until he managed to break the needle off in his sack. Im not sure how he did this, but it was clear that he had misplaced the sharp upon viewing the xray. The whole while, he was pretty nonchelant about the event. He wasnt in much pain, but likely sterile now

Nice. What fire was that on, and are you wearing an entiat shots shirt? Ill have to dig up some pics of milk challenges from fire seasons past. I don't remember what fire that was, my first with the Bushmen, somewhere in SE Oregon outside of Lakeview and like a good n00b was convinced I could crush the 4.4.40. I was obviously wrong, that's quart #3 in my hands. $600 and the keys to a cherry lime green el camino on the line and I couldn't get r dun. Ahh, the bushmen. I thought those nomex pants looked a bit old school. Ive never seen anyone pull off the 4-4-40 nor the milk challenge. Fun watching folks try though. Yeah, they didn't really let us call ourselves the bushmen when I was on the crew, backlash against too many years of caveman cock wrapped hard hats. I've never seen anyone finish the 4-4-40 or the milk challenge either. I did watch a 6'8" 300# BIA crewmember put the fear of god into us one day tho, we had about 6 grand and a couple sets of keys in the pot and he pounded the first three quarts in under 2 minutes. Poor planning did him in, as he didn't have anyone handing him his quarts and he had to bend over and grab the 4th quart, which immediately led to projectiling. With proper coaching, he's a contender. Old style 32-34's, pulled from the old bushmen cache during inventory, along with a matching yellow top. The new style stuff was pure evil, designed to make hell unenjoyable. I'm impressed with your knowledge of IRC shirts. Yeah, I was on Baker River IHC for a number of seasons. My wife was on Entiat IHC. We met on a helispot. I agree, the old nomex was quite a bit more comfy. We also had some pretty crazy pots put together for the milk challenge. Three shot crews spiked out, 60 people, each of whom threw in no less than $100. I think its about pace, but Im pretty sure the body simply cant process whole milk fast enough. One of my buddies even lined up all of his 1/2pints next to the fire, thinking warm milk would move through faster. Definitely curdled faster.

Dont look down. If your leash is getting caught in the coral, shorten your leash. If the coral is being sucked dry before your eyes as the swell breaks....well, theres no ignoring that. Contrary to what folks may tell you, that coral is soft and caressing to the skin when you get spun through it. Really. Nothing to worry about anyway Keep your head in the game.

Ive been riding past this thing for years and have no idea what the hell it is or what it means, and I think our taxes are allocated to maintain it. Was it part of the influx of large art in the Fremont area back in the day? Can someone tell me what is this WALL OF DEATH? Thanks.
