Are you talking about the old neoprene straps? I still have them on 2 pair of crampons. They're tough to put on with cold hands, but I have never had them break on me. SMC makes them.

I concur with Hugh. The twist mechanism has always been problematic for me. I know some people like them, but the BD Flicklock is the way to go.

There was a great story on Fresh Air (NPR) yesterday about how grey whales used to attack whaling ships because they were in the habit of going after her calves first to try and attract the mothers. They would subsequently kill them. Since the ban on killing these whales things have improved.
