If you could transcribe some Doug E. Fresh for us here that would be really great.

Lyrics from rap songs are very dull reading indeed.
  3. Well, that's settled! Excellent riposte.

Before you get started on that rap-bolting (or "gardening") project at your local, crag, make sure you've got Legolas & Co. on board. From today's NY Times: (Is it possible to write an article about Iceland without quoting or making reference to Bjork? I don't believe it is.)
  5. Good use of "dorking" as a verb. But the woman in the photo is holding the murder weapon, referred to in the article as both ice pick and (I quote) "foot-long, sawed-off ice ax."
  6. I'd guess that rising temperatures have more to do with increased risk of rockall in the mountains. I think it'd be pretty hard to calculate increased risk of rockfall from precipition, at least for the mountaineer who's in an area for a short time only... but what do I know?
  7. By the way, this woman is insane, I'm pretty sure.
  8. So it's a miniature ice axe? I always imagined it was like that thingummy that whatsername had in Basic Instinct.
  9. Adding insult to injury. Wasn't it nice in the old days when the criminal types would just steal your money, or maybe your car stereo, but not your "identity"?
  10. I've been thinking about getting a food dryer - what kind do you have?
  11. Finally, a chance to make some money off my good looks AND my love of stream-fording. It's about time.
  12. ...anywhere that state law requires that your gas be pumped by stoners, anyway.
  13. That's great news!
  14. What's the point of all this speculation, anyway?
  15. I bought my Timex at Rite Aide for less than $20. It's got an alarm, among other sweet features.
  16. You should try marriage bouldering...it's just like dating, but with some obstacles thrown in.
  17. to err is human.... ...to forgive divine. Can we please get back to bible study?
  18. That cooler of beer will make excellent bait for Ivan the Terrible's sting operation.
  19. That's too bad, NOLSe. Are they smashing windows now or did she leave it unlocked? I've never had anything ripped off there, but I'm pretty careful not to leave anything lying around where I can't see it. Given all the sketchy characters that appear of an evening, I think a sting operation would have all the challenge of shooting fish in a barrel.
  20. Is this a conference or a trade show that you're talking about? If it is, I'm pretty sure attendance at those types of things dropped off pretty substantially after 9/11, so it wouldn't be totally irrelevant to make the comparison. That's not to say that you don't hear a lot of spurious stuff attributed to 9/11 or the pre/post-9/11 "world." In my business (magazine publishing), I heard ad sales people using 9/11 as an excuse for not meeting their sales goals for more than 2 years afterwards. At first it sounded reasonable, then it sounded lame, and finally it started sounding a little blasphemous.
  21. to ...in only 15 posts! Way to go team!!! Welcome to cc.com.
  22. Nimrod's Nemesis is the hardest 5.5 I've ever climbed. For Smith: Super Slab, Moscow. Lots of shorter stuff in the 5.6-5.8 range at Northern Point and the Student Wall, and on Staender Ridge.
  23. Best marmot picture ever!
  24. A while ago I picked this book up and read about half of it before chucking it. Usually I'll follow through to the bitter end but the writing style was tedious, plus I just thought this guy's story wasn't credible. It seemed more like propaganda than anything else. For a much better escaping-from-prison read, my money's on "Papillon."
