  1. Table Mountain is also a pretty fun hike!

    Denali Attempt

Wow, and I thought I brought dense reading matter along on climbs. Pynchon, Delilo. Why not bring some Foucault and Derrida for kicks too?
  3. Oh. That makes sense.
  4. I guess I figured that, but why "wag"?
  5. It's a very depressing movie, though.
  6. What in the name of all that's holy is a "wag bag"?
  7. All right, it's time to put the boyscout to the test. Chaps, where do you live? Just the town is OK. We're going to do a geography/landmarks quiz.
  8. OK, now I'm starting to wonder....
  9. Wasn't "The Hills Have Eyes" filmed in J-Tree? That's a mutant-filled doomsday nightmare if there ever was one!
  10. Monkey Face via the West Face Variation on Saturday, and on Sunday an attempt on Mt Washington which was foiled by ice & snow on top. I'm ridiculously sunburnt today. I promise to put sunscreen on next time.
  11. I usually stay at the Grasslands nowadays, but like TLG says, the view from the bivi area in the morning can't be beat. For $4, it's a pretty good deal, considering the running water & showers, etc.

    No Coffee

All the more for the rest of us!
  13. Conditions update: We made an attempt on Mt. Washington on Sunday (6/12). There was snow on the climbers trail, starting about 1/2 mile from the junction with the PCT, which made following the trail a little difficult in places. It'll probably be melted out completely pretty soon. The North Ridge is mostly snow-covered. Good for step kicking on the way up, with minimal post-holing. Once we got to the top of the ridge the rock was plastered with rime ice and a little bit treacherous. We decided to turn around just under the first big tower at the top of the ridge due to poor visibility (though it cleared up fine by the time we got down, of course) and our judgement that the pinnacle was probably going to have more rime ice and snow than we felt like dealing with. No summit, but still a fun day in the mountains with some excellent partners.
  14. Chaps, have a great weekend climbing (I'm going climbing too, by the way!). Please come back Monday morning at 9 am or so PST (that'll be 11 am CST). I'm sure we all appreciate the diversion.
  15. Glad to hear you're on the mend! Thanks for filling us in on what happened.
  16. You've done this?
  17. No, there are no doubts. If Kellogg humors Fido at all he's giving him legitimacy he doesn't deserve.
  18. Kellogg probably should ignore it. I'd say it's not worth $2,000 (even if it's real and not just pretend money) to get involved in the Fido circus.

    summer job?

Or maybe your company needs another Yukon Ho?
  20. The zine "Infiltration" makes for some interesting reading on this subject. I haven't done any urban exploration beyond what we all probably did as kids in abandoned buildings, etc., but some acquaintances of mine spend a lot of their free time with it. Their stories of wading through sewage, running from the cops, and getting poisoned by methane gas kinda turn me off, though.
  21. This is a despicable lie. Karl Hungus was never a member of Kraftwerk, aka Dusseldorf's finest cultural export.
  22. He's making good use of the white-tape route. But is the arete on?
  23. Afton Alps has some pretty sweet hills! Or you could always head north to Lutsen. Or my personal favorite: Hillbilly Hills of St Joseph. One gently sloping hill nearly 1/32nd of a mile from the summit to the bottom. Only 5 minutes away from my in-laws' place.
  24. What a drag. You don't get much lower than ripping off someone's tent and sleeping bags.
  25. Believe me, I know. The twenty-five years I spent in the land of 10,000 lakes was like one long laugh riot.
