Cold pizza and warm beer with a cigarette butt in it.

OMG, does nobody remember 5th grade at all??? It's "rolls you in flower and fucks the wet spot" shows you a flower....what does that do?

Hey, I grew up in the area code of the beast!!! But then it changed....something about too many beasts in the area and they had to split us up. So now it's 231 which doesn't sound nearly as menacing as 616.

Could it be....vertical speed challenge? http://www.cruxslo.com/vsc.html

When I'm on a highway, four cars behind a slow driver, I never get mad at the slow car....just at the cars in front of me who are afraid to pass.

http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=apex...r&scoring=p I have a montbell roche jacket and like it, but it was a bit more than what the NF stuff is going for now. Also have a golite covert, but I don't like the way it fits as well. It's not a very athletic cut...kinda boxy.

Impossible to answer your question with the info you provide. Are you talking about 20 lbs of all dehydrated food? Whats that like 10,000 calories a day? Way too much. Or is it 20 lbs of canned pork and beans? Add up the calories you're taking. I like to have 4-6000 calories a day when I'm climbing, and around 2500 a day sitting around camp. If you're going out for that long, I'm sure you know how many calories YOU need for the amount of work you're doing. By the way, running out of food on day 7 or 8 will really suck.

Important Info for Snoqualmie Summit Pass Holders
Macson replied to BreezyD's topic in Climber's Board
Perfect. I think maybe I should start using that strategy too! So when things don't go well for my company I'll just send a big FU letter to my most loyal customers and raise the rates for the ones who are waffling about whether to use my service or not!!! How short sited of Mount Hood Meadows. How many times do they think they can screw their bread and butter before they're toast? Big props to Snoqualmie for recognizing the value of keeping the foundation of their business revenue happy. -
Definitely Mounties. Check out those gaiters.

I like to wear a synthetic base layer or smartwool with my softshell, as you've been doing. Then if it's so cold that that isn't working I'll throw my belay jacket over the softshell, or maybe just my hard shell if it's just a little too cold. I wouldn't use the alchemy in conjunction with the transition shirt...I would use one or the other at a time. I do the same thing, except my light warm weather softshell is a Golite Covert and my cold weather softshell is a Montbell Roche. A couple weeks ago I was showshoeing in Michigan and it was 4 degrees out. I only had on a MH wicked tee and the Roche jacket and I was plenty warm, at least while moving.

Well, the wife and kids are going to Grandma's house for the long weekend and I've got Sunday off to do something. Anyone interested in a one day outing? I was thinking Ellinor, or Washington if someone was up for it. Also could do Townsend or Angeles or Buckhorn (North peak), or I'm open to suggestions. It looks like avy danger will be moderate on the East slopes, but I'll double check that Saturday. Edited to add: Mt. Erie would be fun too if anyone wanted to go up there. I have rope and rack, can lead moderate sport routes, and would also like to practice some trad placements (just for practice....I don't lead trad yet )

There was a front page story in today's Peninsula Daily News that there was an avalanche Sunday just North of the visitors center. The Port Townsend snowboarders involved were able to walk away from it. Story here: http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/sited/story/html/183566 I had planned to head up there Saturday, but decided not to because of the avy forcast above 5,000'. Be careful out there folks.

Thanks. I tossed my cookies and that seemed to help. I feel much better now.

The biner coming off the harness can be either a locker or 2 ovals/d's. The next set (that is parallel to the harness biner) has to have 2. One biner for "brake bar" is just fine for ropes over 10mm. I get plenty of friction on my 10.5 at 175 lbs body weight. Your question implies one scenario where you might use brake biners directly with a single locker. I don't think that's a good idea. Take a look at the explaination in FOTH7 on page 196/197. It's not bad. Tie spectra with a tripple fishermans cause it's slippery. But don't cut your mammut slings!!! I'm trying to picture in my mind your setup in the 6mm cord. So you've got an anchor with a loop that's not big enough to pass the knot through, I guess so you don't have to rely on the strength of the 6mm cord. There was a better method posted here a while back. Tie a figure 8 on a bight, then loop the rope through to make a slidable loop attached to the anchor. Then tie the 6mm cord into the figure 8 loop to use as a pull cord. I just wouldn't trust that the knot wouldn't slip through the anchor under weight, if I'm reading your first description right.

Ever since the latest upgrade my cookies won't automatically log me in every time I come on the site. So I'm anonymous unless I want to post, which is rare. I used to be logged in every time I visited the site without doing anything extra.

My mother in law saw a wolverine in their horse pasture last year. The dogs went to investigate, but hightailed it out of there as soon as they got close enough to see. When my father in law heard about it he told her it must have been a badger or porcupine...until he saw the picture. Wolverine for sure. This was on their place accross the river from the town of Methow.

Suunto x3-hr. The good, the bad….the critique. I just bought one of these last night. First the good. It’s cheap. The price just went down to $149 at REI, so you can get a Suunto for less than a Highgear. It has the things I want and skips the things I don’t. Like a battery hogging crappy compass. Can those wrist compasses really be used for anything? Anything? It also doesn’t have the computer download and analyze stuff. God help me if I ever go that far down the path to geekdom. I’m bad enough as it is. Anyway, it has the altimeter, the heart rate monitor and a relatively small profile all of which I like. Now the bad. It has 3 modes; time, memory and training. The two real time modes are time and training. In the time mode there’s no way to see the time and altitude at the same time, as far as I can see. In the training mode you can see the altitude but that’s pretty much it unless you’re using the heart rate monitor. I’m still learning to use it so I’ve left a lot of what it does out, but seeing the time and altitude at the same time seemed like such a basic feature I never bothered to look for it before I bought it. Still a good deal at $149 though and you only have to press one button to switch modes. I wonder how hard that will be with a gloved hand that’s holding back a storm shell at the same time.

I imagine he could be talked into it. I heard Stewart was back in town. I'd like to see those pics too! Better figure something out quick though. Time fly's this time of year.

Yup, I'm in Port Townsend. I think a pub club over this way someplace would be great. Silver City anyone? Or maybe the Kingston Inn so if anyone wanted to ride the ferry they could just walk on.
-
Goatboy, can you tell me where the Winthrop Brewpub is or which place it is you're talking about? I can't seem to think of anyplace there where they brew their own....unless you're talking about the Twisp Brewpub. If you're talking Twisp, I agree the place is great. Also, what's that pub in Glacier accross the street from Milano's? Graham's? I like the Mutha Burger.

Name her Liberty Bell. Call her Libby for short.

I once hiked up to Camp Mystery just this side of Marmot Pass for a night in late November. I would think you'd be able to drive to Ten Mile Shelter pretty easily, but you may need snowshoes for the hike by then. For winter day climbs from there you could do Buckhorn or Warrior or maybe do some stuff on the gargoyle ridge if it's relatively dry.

note to self: no borrowing batteries from Gary.

I suspect the temperature rating of the camera has more to do with the lcd screen not working in freezing temps, than any problems with freezing parts. On my camera I just disable the lcd screen when it gets cold because it seems to get really sluggish with it on in the cold. Also, I can't say enough about the AA lithium batteries. My camera is a battery hog! My rechargable NiMH batteries were typically good for 100 or so pictures if I used the lcd sparingly. I put in lithiums when I realized I fogot the others on a trip back in July. That one set is still showing full bars on the camera and I've taken 400 plus pics on them, plus they're good for extreme cold.
