I can't stay for the weekend, and I hardly know anyone anyway, but I'm solo in my truck heading over hwy 20 Saturday morning. Coming from Whidbey (PT Ferry) and could give someone a ride if needed. Not coming back until Tuesday night after some climbing at WA pass though, so you'd probably be on your own to get home.

Is it flatter than it was? It's been fairly flat for some time now. Last year Memorial weekend I was up there and you would have had to snake a runner through it to use it because it had already been pounded down so a biner wouldn't fit. I went up again in July and it was the same. IMO it takes a special kind of dumbass to flatten it to make it useless, but still leave it there as an eyesore.

I've never worn shorts over polypro, but I have to admit I have worn gaitors while walking down the side of a road. Something to add to Jens' last point; don't do that, unless you're taking the Mounties navigation class!

I tried to look up the ownership based on the area description, but wasn't able to. Maybe someone who knows a little more than me about Chelan's GIS can figure it out. Most counties in Washington have a really nice system (I use them to figure out RE tax deductions a few hundred times a year), but Chelan county's system kind of blows. Rather than give you the information they actually refer you to Lighthouse...a pay site.

I agree that the new system sucks. I climbed it last Sunday, and for what it's worth a waitress at Jack's told me the fine for climbing without a permit is $1,000. I don't know how accurate she was, and I didn't see any rangers on the mountain on Sunday. In fact, out of the three times I've climbed it I only saw a ranger the first time, Mothers Day 2003.

I'm not sure I understand your answer on the parking. Last year at this time of year the Blue Lake parking lot was under a couple feet of snow. There was a small plowed section just in front of it. There was room for a few cars at the hairpin turn as well. When you say "there were many more cars" it makes me think the parking lot is plowed or melted out....true?

Connor, Joel and Kyle....my three sons. Joel climbs in the gym a lot, and has climbed at Lworth and Mazama. Kyle freaks out about half way up the wall at the gym. Connor wants to go really bad, I just haven't brought him yet.
