  1. I have had good experience with it to date. It is slippery out of the gate but after a day of climbing seems to grab well.
  2. Blakej: not sure what your approaches are like in CO but out here a back pack made out of a material capable of bivying in would look develop holes quickly (especially if you haul your pack). I sometime line my backpack with a contractor garbage bag which would work for what you are describing. Consider though while you are using your bivy backpack to stay dry all your stuff that is laying out around you is going to get soaked. I think the lighter option is to get the lightest bivy bag you can get (sub 16 ounces these days) and look at cutting weight elsewhere or car to car it.
  3. PDX DT Thursday 1/19 5 pm ish. 3 confirmed so far. Weather looks good also If you're coming let me know
  4. So the lair is within OPB's broadcast range? Hmmm...
  5. I wish WT would bring back the 24 ounce Andi they made out of pack cloth... 5000 cubics/1.5 lbs!
  6. He isn't sponsored and doesn't work at a gear shop. I think he is genuinely stoked to finally get his hands on that pack... that's all. Wild Things is so strapped for spectra due to the war they weren't even giving PD on it for awhile. With that said I think Dru is on the right track... smack down for all the paid help
  7. NYC out of Eugene I volunteered guest lectures/outdoor instruction for NYC back when I lived in Eugene... those kids are the some of the most screwed up kids I have ever worked with... not all of them but a healthy majority of them had serious emotional and/or physical (drugs) issues... many were there as they had been permanently expelled from tradition school. I think if you sent your kid here he would see it as punishment more then anything and quite possible pick up some back habits... After class (I would do 1-2 days a week max) I would feel the overwhelming urge to go visit my parents and give them both a big hug and thank them for being such good parents. If you are considering the NYC option get a hold of me and I can put you in touch with some current/former counselors/instructors I think forcing the outdoor theme with him isn't going to fly and if anything will risk a further division between the 2 of you... just because your wife and you like it doesn't mean he is going too... I am willing to bet a majority of the users on this board might have gone camping with their parents but that is the extent of it. My whole extended family has never climbed... further more they have no interest. I would echo others suggestions: - doing nothing is not an acceptable option - he needs to get a job or some form of responsibility... i.e. if he wants to volunteer his time for a non profit offer to pay him minimum wage (or more) for his time... you need to identify something he wants and help him work towards saving for it... like a car! He is 15! - support what ever he expresses interest in (with in reason) - communicate And be patient... To give you an idea of what kind of teenager I was I was voted by my Senior Class "Most likely to be seen on America's Most Wanted" Some kids just take a little longer to come around
  8. Highs in the teens later this week... if this holds we might be in business
  9. yes
  10. Yes they did do sizes... is the "S" located on the pack itself or on the shoulder straps (should be located near where the two straps connect)? Good chance the pack itself is genenric and the straps are women specific... assuming this is the case you might be able to find men's sized shoulder straps and have a working pack. I can fit the pack to you if you need some help
  11. It's a party where a bunch of people sit around and curse at the TV screen because the seahawks always blow it in the playoffs... you know... like the Dawgs do during the regular season. The best part is they all like to yell and carry on like they actually know what they are talking about even though almost all of them have never played organized football before... generally they just rephrase what the announcers are saying... pass defense!?!?!?! we just didn't show up to play today get your head in the game!!!
  12. I gotta work late tonight... how about Thursday? Does that work for people. Let me know... 503.758.5772 or PM
  13. In the future please refrain from posting commentary such as this as it discourages newbies from breaking trail into points of interest.

  15. Could it be... a window by this weekend? I know... long term generally equals best guess but I couldn't help but notice the lack of precip in the forecast for Wed on... We need to organize a boot pack installation party for stuart! Get like 10 peeps w/ snowshoes and pack out a trough to the moraine! Who's in?
  16. Freedom of the hills. Go buy it. Length will depend on whether you attach it to your harness or wrist. Leash does not need to come tight when you self arrest... if anything people prefer a little slack. If you plan on attaching it to your wrist one easy way to determine length is hook the very bottom of the leash over the spike, tie the knot/double back the slider buckle/how ever it attaches with enough tail to ensure the knot/slider won't fail and cut it.
  17. BS definitely made an impressive debut but album of the year? Hmmm... I still think they need to make some strides to further establish a true self identity... at this point I think they sound like a J5 copy cat... Some of my 2006 best of hip hop picks: Danger Doom - The mouse and the mask Blackalicious - The Craft Cage - Hell's Winter Sage Francis - a healthy distrust Perceptionists - black dialogue Albums I am most stoked about for 2006? Dre - Detox Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol 3 (unless the CIA gets him first ) Roots - Game Theory (on Def Jam!) Mr Lif El P and anything MF Doom touches including... Madvillain 2 I just might have to change my avatar
  18. Hey midget... still think a 3 stone is a big deal? Instead of spraying all the time maybe you should get a second job so you can afford a full carat
  19. the question is when is someone going to register the "orange alien" avatar here or even better at rc.com and start spraying
  20. I don’t want to be “that guy” Oleg but I can’t help but wonder what avy conditions are going to be like up there... The cooper spur ice (at least the ice I am thinking of… the stuff along the Eliot glacier right?) is below a rock ridge that runs roughly NE/NNE. Above the rock is an avy slope (30ish degrees). Recent winds have tended south/south west in combination with recent snowfall: is going to result in some healthy slope loading/wind deposition on northern – northeastern aspects including that ridge above the cooper spur ice. Maybe you know of some ice I don’t that is in a safer location but I have to ask: what makes you think this ice (assuming it is in) can be safely climbed? 21. Next session Tuesday Jan 17th at Rocky Butte. I am flexible so this can be moved *or* we can do a second session... let me know... PM me or call (503.758.5772) if attending. I should have hay in place to put an end to the mud
  22. Nice pics Paul! Don't mind the boulder boy... he is only fascinated by small things... seems to be a theme in his life Anybody have reqs on photo and/or painting mounting/hanging in PDX or SEA... I have some valuable pics so I wouldn't mind paying a little bit extra to ensure 50 years from now they still looks amazing. TIA! One of my favs that most people know:
  23. There is some rock very similar looking in formation just before you get to the Dalles on the south side of I-84 where the railroad tracks cross under the freeway. It's columnar basalt but the columns are very small in size and tend to twist/overlap making for a bunch of wild mini aretes. Cool looking stuff! Did we figure out if this in Quartzville Creek? Perhaps someone could post more detailed directions?
  24. Coeur d'Alene, ID. Figure it out when we get there.
