how random, i was just opinining on this very subject over in the everest thread clearly it was the great tauntaun disaster on the n face of hood in two-double-ought....uh...uh...shit, how long ago WAS that? Ding ding...there is nothing like a mountaineering accident to fluff up the traffic. Esp. when the climbers were discussing the route before hand here and then the media links us.
  2. It is pretty strange how people can get fired up over one travesty, and then totally pass over getting excited over the next 25 travesties. I guess you run out of energy or time.

If we started making it a requirement that the people running for the office of PUSA be qualified for the job then I'm afraid we wouldn't have any qualified candidates.

Yeah we haven't done a great job at keeping this place on the latest web 3.0 platform. The forum software we use here is definitely a relic of history. There are reasons for it, but those reasons are really excuses, for which there is no excuse...so I'm not going to bother. Here is another site you might enjoy: http://www.warnerbros.com/archive/spacejam/movie/jam.htm We also haven't sold the site to the numerous people that have offered to buy the place cover it with ads. Sorry. Maybe we should? And about asking people to be more civil with the hopes that it might encourage more people to post....yeah, sorry about that too. I really had a secret motive...you know...to make the site more civil and stuff? That it maybe might not be the bitter internet troll hideout? I just don't get people who insist on pounding away online with negativity, who don't seem to display a redeeming shred of humor, decency, or compassion. Its like your life is so bad that you have to drag other down into your sorry little shithole. That is just sad. So I just ask those people to go express their pain elsewhere. If you want to participate put something else in the URL of your browser and go there. Anyway traffic on the internet is such a fickle thing. Anyone care to guess when we had our peak usage? Which event?

Yet you are still here despite the 2003 platform. Never claimed to be a hero at anything. What have you contributed to this place? Why do you keep coming back? Other than to be a snide little troll, that is. Maybe you could write another post about how you're changing the standards for civility around here to improve traffic. Or was it that FB and Reddit stole your traffic? Either way, I respect your determination to rock your 2003 platform! You're almost a hero...almost.

Well welcome back then. If you look in the TR section, which is really what these forums are about, the TRs continue to come in, and some of great quality...FA reports even. See what Eric and Rolf just did for example. Sorry you missed it. Yes we go through slow periods and over all the site is down in use compared to past years. But the lights are still on and the TRs continue to come in. I have not banned anyone in years other than Chinese spammers. I have let a few people know that would prefer that they change the tone of their contributions or move on, but it was really just an ask. I actually like seeing most people come back after they left in a huff. It just proves that there is something about this site that they can't get somewhere else. Glad you are getting some laughter out of the deal and don't care if it is with or at us. There are occasionally funny things posted here (not as much as from earlier days for sure). If the latter though, remember that laughter at people doesn't quite work the same way in that regard when they say that it is "the best medicine".

link ... Interesting that Oly had a meltdown and told me to leave around the same time for having the absolute AUDACITY to question his authority. Reading that thread now it seems like maybe he just needed a hug? Instead I lied and told him I'd be gone for good but I always knew I'd be back to lurk spray once election season rolled around. You can't get this kind of commentary anywhere... even on cable. Nope, I just got sick of your shit, so I let you know that. I wouldn't miss it a bit if you never posted here again, and that still holds true. That you're back is no surprise though, you think you're a unique snowflake in that regard? Lied? Hahahahah, you couldn't stay away if you tried. Go ahead, try it.
  9. Any chance at a RopeUp 2015, oly??? I'm back in the States now and would really like to get out for some casual climbing and drinking with friends before the snow flies (since I haven't climbed any since before I left for Afghanistan way back in 2012). Man I would love to...I love some crisp Leavenworth fall weather. Unfortunately I've got a ton of things going on and it is a little late to plan such a thing. But if people want to put something informal together I may be able to assist. I do miss Ropeup, it was always so much fun. Hope you are well Sobo!
  10. Another page in the impressive book you and the Rat are writing...seems like you guys will have to start doing things naked or with old school gear just to keep it interesting... Awesome. "His rope, with climbing rack, rock hammer, and footgear attached, was spotted suspended from anchors on the overhanging southeast face at 1970 meters." Did you booty anything?

  15. Lowell, I'm amazed with how well you are handling all this with all the grieving you must be doing. I personally would be super devastated to lose my wife, to the point where I can't even imagine it, so I'm sure this is super tough for you. You have always been a great example and asset to the climbing community, and we are all super sorry for this loss. I never met her, but I wish I had. If there is anything I can do to help you through this, no matter how small, please let me know. /porter
  16. Looks like there was/is a fire burning at the top of the upper wall down onto it.
  17. Come on out and spend an evening with people who love climbing just like you do. Here is the link to the Facebook page for the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1039850629360416/ Come on out, makes plans, share stoke, share a drink with a fellow climber. The Bergschrund 4818 17th Ave NW, Seattle, Washington 98107 @7pm till whenver.
  18. So you're saying it wasn't you then? He's just saying that he is a selfish and inconsiderate person, and obviously not a karma farmer.
  19. Cool TR, I don't remember there being a water source that you could get at up there the one time I have been up there. I'm betting you guys had more fun than we did, as it was just a year after a fire that was up there so the hike up was really ashy. I would have definitely described it as sub-optimal. We were up to climb the Flagpole and it didn't work out, but it was a really fun trip up there regardless. It is a beautiful and rarely traveled place.
  20. its a busy classic mang. good luck.
