its a specific type of character that appears to originate out of Spokane. Sort of like an "inland wigger" or an "arkansas boulder farmer" or something. my perception for WA state surfing is probably based on the fact that as little as 7-8 years ago you could go hit 1st Beach or Hobuck and not see another person out on the water...not it is crowded, and some people are definitely packing an attitude out there. one of my friends who is out there all the time says he is even considering to just go climbing instead because the people tend to have less attitude. of course, there are a few beaches that don't have that vibe still.
