? Umm..D*a*n Mazur and co were tired, hypoxic, near their personal limt at 28,500+ ft. I Don't think he (they) thought a rescue of Lincoln Hall would be easy or even safe for that matter, none the less they did it, and lo and behold, it turned out NOT to be a "body recovery" What I wonder though is why you would trade your morality ("humanity" might be a better word) for a chance to bag a summit - even "that" summit? IE if its that bad, why even attempt to go? Guess in the long run, you make your choices and have to live with em.

I found this and posted here 'cause I didn't want to bump Wayne & Erden's "Solo Adventure.." off the front page of the forum list. Hope thats acceptable, but feel free to move it if you must mods. -- From --> http://www.mountainmadness.com/news/cbcf.cfm A Celebration of Two Lives Well Lived * Mountain Madness is hosting an event next Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at REI's flagship store in Seattle, WA to celebrate the adventurous lives of Christine Boskoff and Charlie Fowler. The event will also raise funds for the continued recovery effort of Chris. The search effort has been tentatively called off due to weather, but will continue once conditions improve. Olympia-based climbing guide Dan Mazur, who was part of the party that gave up their own ascent to Mount Everest to help a stranded Australian climber, will speak at the event. REI is donating the facilities, and there will be product giveaways donated by National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and area companies to help raise additional funds for the search and recovery effort. Mountain Madness is donating a trip and courses. The general public is invited... --

Ok, Apple, you suck! Take me to a Volkswagen dealer.. I jumped the gun. The "error" (#'s -50, 1417, 1418, maybe a few more as well) has returned. Im fucking determined this time though. Basically there is a VERY WIDESPREAD error that many people are getting from their iPOD 2nd generation Shuffles - very common (as someone tried to tell me earlier). What happened in my case was this: It WIll allow an intitial down load of however many songs you choose to put on it from your iTunes Library - great! BUT, it WILL NOT allow you to add anymore songs after that one, initial down load!! Many people are having this issue. Id just take this thing back (AGAIN) but its so tiny and weightless and good sounding that I am determined to find a way around this bug. I have found that way (it worked once)- with a little help. If you are getting this error and have just purchased or recieved a 2nd generation iPOD shuffle, you may have to play around a bit before you understand what is going on but basically you have to load everything that you want on it all at once and at the beginning (ie the first time you plug you iPOD into the USB port) - it seems to me at this point. So when you want to add songs to the unit your going to have to go through this fun little process in order to fool your system into thinking every time you download is the very FIRST time. It involves re-formatting the iPOD and re-loading it with songs - maybe each time? Im not sure yet. Here are the brief directions for doing so..it may not seem worth all the extra shit but if you like the physical features of the 2nd gen Shuffle as much as I do you it might be worth the hassle. --------- iPod 2nd generation shuffle - the ("a") fix for errors -50,1417,1418 Follow directions as follows: =================================== Disconnect the iPod from the computer. Then go to “start> right click my computer> manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click stop service.” Then connect the ipod and it should show up in my computer. Format it so all content is gone. ------------------------------------ Next, go back to “start> right click my computer> manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click Start service.” This should have the service running again. -------------------------------- SHUT DOWN ITUNES AND DISCONECT IPOD --------------------------------- Open iTunes and connect the shuffle. When it says to automatically fill it (the window that pops up) dont un-click it, proceed so the shuffle autofills. Before it stops, quickly go to the settings tab. Then, scroll down to where it says “enable disk use”. select that and hit apply. Now, you manually eject the iPod (THE WAY YOU DISCONECT ANY USB DEVICE) and you can manage your music! END---------- that came from--> http://www.1418hell.com/2006/11/04/itunes-breaks-2nd-generation-shuffles-too/ BTW - Why is it that with computers, we allow shit to work like 70% time and still call it good?

Dear Fellow iShuffle hounds, After that first bad experience with an iPOD Shuffle, I decided that maybe it was the unit itself. Now I gots me another and IT FUKIN WORKS! Now, to recognize me in the mountain environment, Ill be the one perched with a stupid grin on my face, white ear-buds stuck in those hole thingys on the side of my head, totally oblivious to the catastrophic rock fall from above - which you will be so gallantly attempting to warn me of. Show of hands if you got one please? Maybe we could use this thread to solve any issues/ how to's etc..In fact, this is the unofficial climbers iPOD Shuffle thread. So far I downloaded just 4 songs that were in my iTUNES library, but thats 3 more then I could download with my first "defective" one. Rock on dudes! Yours tenaciously, D

When to bail? Thats a long list! For starters imo .. ~ When youre in over your head (and "down" is an option). ~ When youre too tired. ~ When youre way off-route. ~ When bad weather is moving in. ~ When darkness is approaching. ~ When youre moving to slow with darkness and weather moving in. ~ When someone gets hurt. ~ When you drop or lose some essential gear. ~ When you forgot some essential piece of gear. ~ When you surmise that the terrain will no longer support you. ~ etc... fill in the blanks... (common theme, down as an "option" sometimes though, up or sideways is the safest way to bail) I always tried to look at it like this: FIRST priority is scoping a bail out option; SECOND, the descent route; THIRD the ascent route.

I took the test that Dr M Layton suggested with his link. Results were as follows: pre reading of this thread--> You are a total genius/stud! Few in the world can match your intelligence and bravery. The masses fall at your feet in worship. You should have a palace on every continent and will some day rule the world as lord of light and fun things. post reading this thread--> You are a total retard! You are the most retarded person in the world! No one likes you, you might as well move to Africa because you have no friends. You have correctly answered 1 of 10 questions.

"Correction. The doctor has failed to climb the mountain twice before. I don't want to offend you, but I'm forced to say... ...I don't consider a record of failure automatically grants you the right to lead."

Just thought I'd post a link update. Seems like theyve narrowed the search down to one mountain. Gotta take everything you read with a grain of salt of coarse. The bottom link (as posted above aready) is probly the best source for info at this point. Lets hope for the best. http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/?id=300872&type=National http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2006-12/22/content_765799.htm http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_122506WABchinamissingclimbersKC.4474228a.html http://fowlerboskoff.blogspot.com/

Regardless of his dramatics, I think most climbers would put him at or near the top of their list - specially xtreme altitude climbers. Its subjective though, everyones experience is different. What he done speaks for itself - just like the Fred

just reminder that this isnt the thread to speculate or comment on "what happened" etc.. Its more about issues relating to *possible* future imposed fees, mandatory regulations or restrictions to access in the wake of "what happened". THNX.. crossed fingers, hoping its not on 60min this Sunday..shhhhh...
