  1. I think that we will hear of more sling failure over time as the Spectra deteriorates, but that's just my opinion. The 12mm slings have more material so they should last longer. I was just looking at my set of ratty 8mm Mammut slings last night. Time to replace.
  2. A friend rercently had her rack stolen from her car outside the Seattle REI. I don't expect to get it back, but if you happen to find someone selling it... There were plenty of older hexes slung with tech cord. This is the older pink/purple stuff. A couple of older BD cams, a #3 and another, I think. Some mid-size Metolius power cams, old style, most without rangefinder. 3 old style DMM 4CU's, #1, #1.5, #2, all with green paint on the lobes A couple of old HB Flexi-fix cams, also with green paint. A number of newer Mammut slings with superlight Mammut 'biners similar to Trango Superflies, some tied 9/16 doubles with OP Dovals. I've looked at Ebay and rc.com. As I said before, I don't expect to get this back, I would like to have a few words with anyone who turns up with the rack.
  3. This combined with JosephH's info might lead me away from the floss. I will be in teh market for 12mm slings soon.
  4. Teh internets turn in on itselfs
  5. I set my sights low and went climbing.

    Freds emaiil

Hey, hey, read what I wrote: "understand a woman's voice" I never implied any understanding of their intentions. Although, fromm all the "Fred stole my girlfriend" stories, I can only assume he knows more than I.

    Freds emaiil

I've heard that Fred can understand a woman's voice much better than a man's.
  10. shitty bean dip
  11. Mos Chillin racking up to add another route to "We Did Rock" at Exit 38.
  12. Since I'm always wrong about this stuff, I'm goign to try and create some good karma for the resst of you by well, being wrong. Temperatures will be at record highs this winter. Snoqualmie Pass won't open at all and Stevens will only have 3 skiing days. Ice? If you want ice, you will have to go to NOLSe's garage and play on the foam he appropriated from Cascade Crags. Or you can go to Alaska. You all owe me.
  13. the restraining order and the leftover Indian food I had for dinner.
  14. I'm not a proponent of physical violence, especially on a climb, but this is truly an ass-whupping offense. You simply do not F*ck with the protective gear of another party.
  15. Buy a BMW. They all have catalytic converters and are CARB compliant.

  18. 7 miles is a difficult ride? I've done the 20+ miles to work and it's not too bad. If you were to sack up and ride it, you will get more fit and ride faster. If you want a motor, the little 50cc scooters get 100 mpg. Most of them are two cycle which means more pollution per gallon. Electric scooters are everywhere now. With a whopping 7 miles to go, most will have the range you need. And finally - I second/third/fourth getting a full-on motorcycle. I spent a year only using a motorcycle for my commute from Des Moines to Renton. It was cold, sometimes wet, but you really appreciated the car.
  19. Go to a motorcycle shop and get some goggles for a whopping $15. Bobster Goggles I've been using them for a couple of years now. They fog up about the same as a pair of glacier glasses with sideshields, but they protect from the wind much better. I've also seen these at GI Joes.
  20. I could have taken some if you would've asked on Friday.

    New Westy?

"The Atacama concept" sounds like obscure math. Gary, can you fill us in?
  22. Much of my work in the aircraft industry has been with lighting. We are currently working on an all LED system for our newest offering. The control of this system is a huge pain in the ass. You need to account for different LED color, color temperature, brightness, aging, color drift, etc... Another big problem is how LED's make light. All current residential fixtures/light designs are with omnidirectional sources. LED's create a single beam of light. It's tricky to get this light diffused in enough directions to create the same sort of lighting we are accustomed to. In short, I don't think we will be seeing LED's breaking into the common lighting market anytime soon. Ten years? Sure... Five years? No.
  23. A protest does nothing but make the participants feel self-important. Try a hunger strike. It worked for 14,000 Argentinian prisoners. It worked for Ghandi. Anyone can make a few signs and get together to bitch about an administration. Only a truly outraged person is going to starve themselves to get something changed. I've got nothing against the protesters. Please, exercise your first amendment rights and bitch about whatever you want to bitch about. These days a protest in Seattle is about as effective at policy change as an internet petition. Don't convince yourself that you are changing the world.

    I'm right

Then I'm torn - I could avoid Smith at all costs, or I could show up and give you the tea-bagging you deserve. . Decisions, decisions...
