Curious on which one you are going to do? Done most of them. If you do Colchuck, I would suggest the Northwest Route. Very steep slope route that can be gained from the low notch above Colchuck Lake on the NE Ridge. Not sure on the conditions this late in the year though. Route is seldom done that is for sure.

Suggestions for easy climbs in the North Cascades?
ncascademtns replied to cluck's topic in North Cascades
Watson NF is a nice climb but the summit can be scrambled from the west with ease. Little off route finding and a short mild glacier. Views of Baker, Shuksan and Beacon to the north are very enjoyable. -
The turnout at the base of the Guye is the tow area I believe. We pulled in there a few years ago and had a bad feeling when we started unloading. People came out of there houses and looked at us. There was a tow sign so we figured if we did park there, our car would be gone by the time we got to the route. We ended up moving the car down to the main road and walked back up. Better safe than sorry .

Sahale is going to put you in the right spot! Moderate hike, short glacier and easy rock scramble. 1 day or 2, you can go wrong. You'll have the best views in the North Cascades! -
If your talkn' Alpine, 3 nuts (1 small, 1 medium, 1 large) 3 cams (1 small, 1 medium, 1 large) Should I say more?

N. Face Buckner (or, Shoeless on Sahale Arm)

Dirty Blue Guy Dirty Blue Van ? Hey, Mtngrrrl, Were those shoes a size 11? NF Buckner, excellent climb!! -
I knew you would respond on this one. Yes, there will be no backup in the field (mountains). Basic CPR/First Aid or First Responder would be beneficial but beyond that, you would need the special equipment that no one would be carrying. One more good one would be the Wilderness First Aid Course that some of the guide services sponser. A little more in depth than the MOFA course that the Mountaineers teach.

You guys are nuts but hardcore. Good work! As an inside joke, my buddies and I call Bonanza "The Evil Octapus". Excellent mountain to climb.

How many people have actually done this? If you have, go ahead and put up a post. If you have not, let it go. Let's just see what comes up.

Cheer up! Post on your own thread and you can call me a lie'r.

Why did Dru's thread get 3+ pages of replys and Sphinx thread got zero? Why? Did you start with Sphinx and than decide to turn to Dru? Maybe this should be posted on the Spray Network Television. (SNT)

I flew back from Reno (SWA) on Sept 10, 2001 (evening before 9/11) after doing the east face of Whitney. I had my MSR stove in my bag. My partner had the fuel bottle which was empty. I made the mistake of telling them that I had a stove but no fuel and no bottle. Big deal I thought. We'll my buddy didn't say a word and they let him through. They took my stove and told me to move on. WTF! They said that the stove had been previously burned and would still have fuel substence in it. We all know that White Gas evaporates fast. I tried to explain that to them but she would not listen. This guy was standing next to me with a pack of smokes in his front pocket with a lighter in it. I asked the lady, "so you let this guy take a lighter on the plane"? She gave me this smart ass look and summon her manager. I finally agreed to leave the stove but asked to have it ship home, the bitch said, "not my problem". Bitch! She said all lost stuff goes to F'n Georgia or something like that. I took one of those bag tags and wrote my name and address on it and tagged it to the stove. She gave me another smart ass look and put it behind the counter. Bitch! Made it home that night and called Southwest Airlines in Reno in the morning (9/11). The lady on the line said that there was a meeting going on and that someone would call me back in an hour. Well, that was when the shit hit the fan and the Twin Towers crashed to the ground. I let it go for about a week. I finally called back and talk to another person. She actually found the stove in the back room. She was really nice about the whole thing and get this, she shipped it FEDX overnight on a freakin' airplane! Got it back. I believe in the don't ask, don't tell. Hell with it, just lie.

If it would have gotten pinned, would you have had the gutts to cut it off? That's pretty scary stuff! The gully on E. Wilmans is pretty steep. I climbed up up it in the winter a few years ago. If there would have been a slide, I would have been toast. I would consider your TR a true epic. Glad you made it out. You know make a great pain killer!!

Suggestions were left a few days ago in the mounties thread/spray forum. The couple you ran into... Did one of them happen to pack her stuff and move out west just to climb? No clue. Ran into them on a route at Intersection Rock. We were talking and she said she was from Minnesota. I asked her the same question, "what do you climb in Minnesota"? Sounded like they were really into climbing hence they were at JT over New Years. Can't say if they said anything about moving west although I talked up the state of Washington. Who's knows, maybe I convinced her.

Since you told the guy he lost the rope, he knows you have it. Good intentions of giving it back is all you need to make you feel better. Don't go out of your way to get it back to him. Let him come and get it. If he doesn't, your rope. That's all. Have a nice day.

Toast, Got one. You break it, you buy it (actually replace it). Come get it, I'm not hauling it for you.

We solo'd the northwest side. Loose rock but if you move fast, it goes quick.

Excellent! I guess that beats the Whitney Portal. Stay up there for a month and ship you straight to Nepal.

Excellent! I guess Minnesotans do climb. I ran across a couple in Joshua Tree around New Years. I had heard about the climbing on the North Shore. I'll be there next month so I'll take a looky. Any great places to eat in Grand M?
