  1. oh and it's comfortable! bwahahaha
  2. I made a resolution this year to replace my harness annually. Given that a some manufacturers say that circa 100 use-days is the lifespan of soft goods (I use mine about 150 days/year), I think it is a prudent decision.
  3. WI5 or hard (well protected) rock routes...after a coffee and a gatorade, of course.
  4. more importantly than wallowas alpine routes...wtf are doing in troy?
  5. Jake - Just call Steve at the brewery in Enterprise. He used to post on here at Terminal_gravity. very nice guy. There is a good route on Chief Joe's NF, a couloir that looks fun. a long day trip. The NF of Sacajawea goes at AI2. wait until it consolidates. take skis, the skiing there is off the hook!
  6. I'll be in Red Rocks over New Years and have the first (1/1/08) off. Any cc.comers want to get out? Shoot me an email at kurtDOThicksATgmailDOTcom (remove no-spam stuff) or find me in the evenings at the campsite that has the big white van with a roof rack. Kurt
  7. there is a guy in seattle who recycles ropes into dog leashes. i believe he was also involved in starting the sterling rope recycling program. www.krebsrecycle.com
  8. looks like that new roadcut on 95.
  9. The best boot is the one that fits your foot, keeps them warm, and has a liner than can be dried out easily. There are numerous models that fit those criteria. As stated before, Millet and Sportiva Olympus Mons are front runners in the integrated double boot category, meaning you don't have to have an overboot with these. Otherwise you can go for a more versitile boot like the Sportiva Nuptse or a plastic boot with an Intuition liner and combine that with an overboot. That system gives you more flexibility when it comes to using your boots in places other than high altitude slogging, not to mention more technical performance compared to something like the Olympus Mons.
  10. Petzl told me that the "new" Sarkens, if they are ever made, are at least 3 years from production. They require a complete redesign supposedly.
  11. Leavenworth update: everything that rat said is true. hubba looks to be thin. Mtneers creek (new stuff all the way up to Mr Seattle)- nope rainbow - nope pivotal moment - nope careno - nope wet & wild - maybe soon. chandelier falls - nope whitepine - maybe, couldn't see it well. across from Castle - nope Millenium Walls - in. bring a 60m rope to TR it. take snowshoes.
  12. 2 lines directly across the river from the roadside sport routes we climbed. they look like WI3 and WI5 respectively, probably long 1 pitch routes. They're hard to see through the trees, but they're there. I think the handcrack just left of the sport routes freezes too as it is a water groove with moss and drips year round. supposedly the falls just right of the Road Warrior area freezes on occasion at WI2ish. there are a few more by Lewiston that I can point out too. Milepost 18 on Hwy 12 east, and out at MP 118 (or so) there are a few unclimbed falls too. sad that I moved before i ticked them all...
  13. yes. probably 15 independent short lines (15-25m?). plus a couple at the Dome...
  14. Looks cool. Have you ever explored the cliffs near the Weis Rockshelter a couple miles north of Grangeville? I've only seen it in a warm spell mid winter, but ice definitely forms there.
