  1. No, the delusion is your if you happen to think that the current administration is what's best for America. I think the Bush Administration has taken what was good about the Republicans and conservatives and warped it into something destructive and unholy.
  2. web page o' shame
  3. I notice Peter only quotes FactCheck when it happens to agree with his only too obvious politics. Talk about disingenuous......
  4. So, if 'interpreting the law and the Constitution' is considered 'judicial activism', is interpreting the Bible considered 'religious activism'?
  5. Well, we *do* need more soldiers and FBI guys.....
  6. Sorry, that's a felony now for some of you...
  7. i've got that book and read the critiques of it as well as discussed some of it with some scientific colleagues. it's good to be skeptical, it's good to question the current paradigm, it's not good to be skeptical when the preponderance of evidence points to you being wrong. not addressing that to anyone, just saying...
  8. i'm not saying it is, but neither is giving away trillions of dollars to corporations and farmers. not to mention allowing polluting industries and large corporations to 'self-regulate' when they have dismal record of doing the right thing. sometimes government is the answer.
  9. of course, throwing money at anything doesn't solve the problem, but it usually makes a few well-connected souls very happy.
  10. i'm often accused of being liberal because i don't believe throwing money at a war solves the problem...... ;-)
  11. Be fruitful and multiply....no apologies. God wanted to see us crash and burn from the start. It's his sick game, like burning ants with a magnifying glass.
  12. i did that. north rim and back in a day. dumbest thing i ever did.
  13. how about all of our tax dollars going to support those cushy halliburton salaries? what about those?
  14. gee, if he wants to troll, wouldn't it be better to have the following: 1) socially conservative, fiscally conservative 2) socially conservative, fiscally liberal 3) socially liberal, fically conservative 4) socially liberal, fiscally liberal Of course, given that the republicans are currently spending us into oblivion, it's not really fair to say 'fiscally conservative' anymore, except *maybe* at the state level or below. I used to think I could trust them on at least that one issue. That and keeping their nose out of everyone's private business.
  15. don't you have enough mad cows to worry about up there ?
  16. The T4 is quite nice and does very well but I really don't like P&S cameras. Automatic everything = nothing comes out right.
  17. i don't see it as solving any real problems though it might be a handy bromide for the effects bad parenting.
  18. supposed to go skiing, but didn't cuz wife got sick. no climbing either. :-( much painting of the garage....
  19. if we don't have a draft to be avoided, where will our future politicians come from?
  20. KK, while I'll agree with your point apropos academics, your words are something I would equally apply to numerous members of the right wing.
  21. The one thing I have observed in education, both as a student and as a researcher, is that there is a strong anti-intellectual cuture in this country. While 'keeping it real' might be laudable, it doesn't bode well for us maintaining our superiority in science and technology. In fact, most students these days seem to be 'doing the numbers' and finding out that it doesn't pay to be a programmer or engineer or scientist and are heading into marketing or medicine.
  22. I can't say I ever ran into liberal *bias* in education. Maybe times are different now. I certainly met a number of liberal students, but then I also met a fair number of conservative ones as well. Maybe it's because highly educated people tend to educate themselves more about issues, to see more sides of an issue than just one, and to disdain hate mongering talk radio? But that's just a generalization. As soon as I say that, though, I immediately think of representatives from both sides of the political spectrum who are close-minded zeaolts.
  23. 1) shouldn't this be in Spray? 2) maybe she'll find a nice cute boy just like her. then they can spend their days coming up with new ways to skullfcuk each other.
  24. And yet, you still haven't answered the question as to why Bush is basically strangling the US science community when fails to meet predetermined policy objectives. I know plenty of scientists in the US atmospheric science community who are either afraid to speak about their work or are unable to get their work funded when the results of such work or funding run counter to the current 'thinking' in DC. Yes, any scientist who puts a political agenda ahead of results is in the wrong in my book. But I also say it's wrong to speak out of both sides of your mouth, on the one hand demanding good science, on the other failing to fund it or making it known that certain results are 'unacceptable'. Can you say the same?
  25. and why is it every time someone legitimately criticizes Bush, someone on the right goes 'waa waa waa Clinton waa waa waa' ???
