  1. I was quite surprised also rod! you can call and confirm with my partners if you really want. Mattp: I think if people haven't checked the weather the rangers should at least say "hey forecast doesn't look good" If they don't these things happen more often! I will never complain about rangers trying to scare me away, quote me on that! they should at the least just warn people.
  2. Anothing thing which probably didn't help was a certain ranger at the whiteriver station telling people, including our group, that "Conditions are perfect! Couldn't be any better!" without even mentioning the weather!! If anybody on this site works at MRNP tell Dave G. (won't write his full last name) to start being realistic. He told a couplde about 45y-o (man and woman) that it was a perfect weekend. That should never have happened! It took them 5hrs to get from the trail head to the beginning of the inter glacier.
  3. I was on the mountain! The conditions were bad but they probably could have made it down. They thought they couldn't, so they called a rescue. Don't flame them for trying to be safe. I presonally believe they could have made it down but I'm not them and neither are any of you. It was pretty much a whiteout, and despite the poor forecast you should all know that weather changes quickly in the PNW and there could have been a window, that is why we went up to camp, but decided to turn around. Their judgement may not have been the best, but they did what they felt was safest for them.
  4. c'mon leave your job, I promise you utah will be a lot more fun, leaving at about 4:15am tomorrow so hurry up and pack!
  5. I'm taking off tomorrow morning for 3-4weeks in Utah and possbly Cali. and all that time just for climbing. I hope everybody gets out climbing enough and that teh weather is decent. Have fun and be safe and I'll be back in about a month. Distel If you go down to utah (joe's valley or american fork) and see a yellow tent and a black integra with washington plates, stop by.
  6. did the sit descent, 1300ft whiteout glissade on my ass
  7. the conditions were shit! we went up to steamboat prow, thought about setting up camp, then went back down yesterday! it was heinous! went from the trailhead up to 9500' then back down in under 7hrs though so it was a good workout in bad weather!

    Beck = THE MAN

    That was seriously one of the funniest things I've ever seen! Beck is a regulator!
  20. Chalk is quite useful! It does actually work when you are climbing in warmer areas and/or if you happen to sweat a lot when working hard which most climbers do. Also works great as a mental boost like snoboy said, a little dip of confidence. Hard to get on really slopey holds without it!
