gapertimmy replied to matty_g's topic in Oregon Cascades
very nice matt. schralper said he saw you dudes heading that way on friday... nice! I fixed up your image links above so we could see the stoke. My buddy cletus calls that line 'the birth canal'. definately one of the cool lines on the south side. as for the NW side of s sister.... there might be some cool lines there too -
Trip: Middle Sister - Hayden Glacier Date: 4/29/2007 Trip Report: Perhaps this belongs in the freshiezone, but I figured some Oregon folks would be keen on seeing some photos from Central Oregon ----------------------- High Pressure + Tired of normal ski spots = time to skin into Middle Sister. The plan was hatched late Friday to get after the elusive sickter turns of the SE Ridge of Middle Sister. Early recon from other internets climbers had shown that the road to Pole Creek TH was snow free, so it was on! The trail was pretty much snow free until about a mile before soap creek. We got a bit too stoked and put the skins on a bit early. This resulted in some serious '4th Class dirt/tree skinning'. Good times: From the creek crossing we had a warm quick skin into camp on a nice dry patch of cinders with killer views: brokentop from camp After some lounging and chubbing I decided to go do a quick corn mission up the glacier. The snow was pretty dang poopy at this point, but I was still stoked to be up in the Sisters, with complete solitude and great views. Sunset over Middle Due to the forecast and hot weather on Saturday, we decided to get the uber early alpine start to get the goods on the SE ridge. We went to sleep with visions of huge corn turns in our heads. Last Light on South Sister from camp Much to our dismay, we were greeted with the GRAY BURD Sunday am. The snow was super-bullet proof firm so we decided to sleep a bit more. Hours passed, the winds weren't dieing down, but we still decided to go check things out. The skies cleared, and the snow magically softened up, but winds and time kept us away from the SE ridge. Nevertheless, we still had a pimpin good time schralping the hayden. jlag all smiles after some turns We vowed to get back up there within a few weeks to revisit the SE ridge, but were stoked with the plab times this weekend up in the Sisters. My Skis- Spring Style Approach Notes: Trail is mostly snow free until Soap Creek. Skinning thereafter.

Bill- I'm guessing the picture you are uploading is a bit large dimension and file size wise. I would suggest resizing the picture first prior to attempting to upload it.

A few other options: 1- Try to hitch a tow on a snowmobile. 2- Wait a few more weeks until the road is plowed out (should be earlier than the normal Memorial Weekend this year). But if you do choose to make the slog, I would suggest hiking up the Fall Creek drainaige (Green Lakes Trailhead). This will save you some mileage from not having to hike to Devils Lake, and I feel it gives you some pretty fun ski options other than the 'normal' south side route. The route takes you between the two lava flows on the SE side of the mountain and connects you in with the standard climb route by the Lewis glacier moraine. Here is some pics of the area: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=460577 have fun!

Bill- Most likely you uploaded a pic when the system was busted a week or so ago. I logged in as you and purged your upload queue. I also did a test upload as you and it worked fine: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=26857&limit=recent Give it a shot now.

Obviously the situation calls for leveraging your remote controlled taun taun. Taun^2 are well equipped to break down doors with chains on them.

I know your pain. HR peeps are tehsuck at intenets and all things electronic, save playing games on their razr's and installing screensavers featuring cats wearing sunglasses. i got so pissed at one of the HR people that I abused my uber admin powers to redirect all of her frequently visited websites to the companies intranet site. i savored watching her squirm knowing she couldn't go complain to her boss about how she couldn't surf at work.

Thanks to everyone who chipped in. Oly is now the proud owner of a brand new AT ski setup. Welcome to the darkside young man! Seriously though, thanks to everyone who sent cards, thoughts, + vibes. It was super cool to see the outpouring of support from this community.

Bachy = Sickness this AM. Sunny skies, no wind and 4" of fresh. Epic laps on the cone. As for ski-in. It might be fun to have a true ski-in some year, like skin in to an uber spot and just ski.

New album, so hot right now. http://www.kingsofleon.com/ If you have enjoyed any of their old stuff, I think this is their best album yet.
