I posted some goods here Some good route ideas can always be found here, Search Oregon, Skiing Closest nwac-esque data is provided by Bachelor: http://www.mtbachelor.com/@@/cams/24 Been pretty warm, even up at Mid-Mountain ~7800' Looks like winds have been going off at summit, sustained 100mph+ winds = lots of transport/loading up high and scoured snacks all over the place

Ben- Check the freshiezone as I just posted some pics of btop from yesterday. There were tracks down pucker up, and no signs of slide activity inside the crater. Snow-wise, the are received 4" (bachelor report) of wet snow with high winds during the storm. This was a warm storm that was deposited on top the last 4-5 which is sitting on the rock-solid ice layer from the warm January. http://www.mtbachelor.com/@@/cams/24 is a great resource for temps at various altitudes nearby. All things considered, I'd watch the temps and the weather the next few days to keep track of how this storm cycle will be settling up(or not). Have fun!

Trip: Central Oregon - Trail Mix Date: 2/13/2007 Trip Report: About a month ago my gaper-steez took a major blow while out playing at tammy mcarthur rim while stomping a HUGE air (uh yeah) my knee went a-pop. I gimped through a sickter trip up in Snoboy's backyard during the healing process, but this week marked the return of timm@y to the BC of central oregon. Alas, here is some fresh stoke from the steep-sickness that lies within the three sisters wilderness. Tuesday: Down with the T.L.B Blue skies in town provided the fuel to get me up for my way early sled-assisted-alpine start. I was greeted with blue skies, and relatively few fellow sledneck brethren at the lot. The destination for today was Todd Lake Butte. This is an uber popular destination for sled-less sickbirds in the region as it is a quick tour from the bachy nordic lodge. Typically this zone is quite crowded during/after storms, but this day, I had it all to myself. Small, but Fun. Todd Lake Butte as seen from Ball Butte I was missing my Skin-Track-o-Matic (aka Snoboy) on the tour up, but it was nice to be breaking trail in a lonely grove of old growth. There was a bit of a crust in spots, but sticking to the shaded areas provided buttery turns down the recent fluff. Mmmmm tasty. As I was finishing up, the clouds rolled in and the graupelz began to fly. Oh no, the grey bird! It was nice to be back in the mix again. Wednesday: Valentine Ball[z] When out at TLB, I caught a glimpse of an old friend in the distance and knew exactly where the next day was going to take me. Mmmm, Ball Ball Butte's west side was looking so super-fly that me and schralper.com cruised on out for some valentines day fun. En-Route to the wilderness boundary, we were treated to some super-stellar sled neck fun. Creamy powder turns all over the place. Sickness! The skin up was rather quick as some nice folks had laid in a track and a boot pack for us the day before (but only did one lap!?!). As we ripped-em and straped in, the clouds magically disappeared. brokentop, turns in pucker-up, LUCKY! Up top it was a bit thin, but still carvablyicious, but after the first 20', life was fkn good. eye heart ball butte During lap number 2, the storm started to blow in, and the greybird reared its ugly head again. The views were gone, but the turns were still damn good. And as always, a good time was had by all, and my knee is feeling much better.

Pics will be posted in the secret members only section of cc.com. PM me for details. These folks had no shame in their game and weren't the least bit bothered by me or anyone else who got to see the show. Love is a beautiful thing. Hobo Love transcends all social constructs.

En route to work yesterday, I witnessed some bonafide, live, hobo-p0rn right here in the lovely rose city. Indeed, the walk to work was highlighted by seeing one of the fine citizens of pdx getting a bj inside the doorway of a building in old town. This by far eclipsed the normal highlights of seeing people smoke the rock on the walk through downtown. Portland, I feel the love!

Yeah my thoughts exactly Steve. On one of my first trips to Bend we went into Wind Cave... good memories. I guess I'm a bit shocked at it as it got very little coverage in the local media this summer when it went down. Additionally, I find it so ironic that the FS who once promoted Wind/Skeleton to attract tourists essentially let the resource go abused for years, and then their 'solution' is to permanently close access under the guise of protecting a bat. Very sad.

Is the Windows Vista Soundtrack available on iTunes?

I got the book at the Newberry Visitor Center at lava butte. I think its just called Guide To Central Oregon Lava Tubes. Yeah if you ever want to go in some of the other ones, drop me a PT and I'll show you the ones off the beaten track. Good way to spend a bad snow day.

Off the top of my head, I can think of about 8 within a 1/2-1 mile hike from the road that have gates on them. I used to have a book with all the names, but its gone missing. There are still 4 that I know of that don't have gates on them, 1 requires a rap into. I'll have to go find the dug out one! The roads approaching skeleton and wind caves have all been blocked off ~ 1/4 before the caves themselves. At the road blocks, the yokels have already setup shooting ranges with old VCR's and computers.

Ahhh the irony of it. Years ago the big debate was over rocks being moved and chalk tainting the rock at the mouth of Skeleton Cave in SE Bend. This weekend while walking the doggies, I discovered Skeleton and Wind Caves both sealed off behind Steel Grid 'bat gates'. Mouth of Wind Cave Much like other tubes in the area, the bat gates are installed to preserve habitat. I find this very confusing as for years these two tubes have been touted by FS as tourist attractions and are trashed by partying teens. The skylight enterance to Wind cave also has a huge 20x20 metal cap on top of it as well. I have always been pissed at the disregard of people at the mouths of the caves (broken glass, appliances, bonfires etc), but having access to these unique gems has really taken away something special from this area.
