  1. dkemp-an avy beacon might've helped here, newbie or not. the ski patrol from alpental were some of the first responders and were there very quickly. they carry avy beacons and may have been able to locate here. who knows if it would've been the same model or not but they certainly would've had a better chance.
  2. i don't know where you were but at alpental we had recieved more than that on friday and had already received at least 6" by 10AM on Sat.
  3. I had no doubt this was probably one of the worst days to be in the hills. Also noting it fell on a weekend when mobs of people might be out in areas like this. Too bad. Those forecasts are overall and very vague which cannot cover every aspect of the ranges within WA comprehensively. If you live and possibly die by the forecast bummer. I view them as general "What's up". on your comment about the forecasts. i saw the one that said "considerable above 4000' and moderate below" it was definitely considerable on the source lake trail.
  4. i don't think that the guide service should be sued and i'm still not clear if these people were part of that group. i wonder if the guide service might start having clients wear avy beacons from now on?
  5. i'm not clear from the original post if the woman who died was part of the MM group or just following their tracks. i was in the area at or very close to the time that avalanche happened. the conditions were obviously bad. we had revised our plans once and ultimately were lucky to have retreated altogether. i believe we encountered the group about 1/2 hour prior to this incident and may have followed their tracks. it seems obvious now that conditions should've kept us out of the are altogether. at the time, knowing the avalanche danger was high, we chose to go in and see for ourselves. perhaps not the brightest idea but an easy one to make. there were many people in the area and it's not that surprising someone was caught. i'm glad we left when we did. i spend a lot of time back in that basin and am very familiar with the conditions. before we start slamming people for this mistake take an honest look at what decision you would've made. i'll be acquiring an avy beacon
  6. veggie you're right that was an overly broad statement: i love how MANY people who drive SUVs feel the need to justify it.
  7. i love how people who drive SUVs feel the need to find ways to justify them.
  8. UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  9. so he's taking over your job,CBS?
  10. weren't so much smart as lucky. the slide happened closer to the TH than i was first told, in a location we had crossed minutes before. the source lake basin/snow lake area are notoriously bad areas for avalanches. like mtn mouse said, many of get to the mountains whenever we can regardless of avalanche danger. this being the case, it would be wise to carefully select WHERE you'll be even if you don't always pick WHEN you'll be in the mountains. my condolences to the familiy of this woman
  11. ehmmic will do a great job moderating this board. YAY ehmmic
  12. additions to my original post: a) digging your self out by throwing snow on my car is not cool b) digging yourself out followed by stopping in the middle of the road to put your chains on is suck c) the area that's been cleared so people can drive up to the chevron is not parking spaces d) leaving the chevron w/ 6 pack in front of the sheriff will get you followed by said sheriff e) if you're fucking around in the snow, you don't deserved to be helped when you get your lame orange truck stuck in a snow bank f) there is STILL no parking on alpental road...read the damn signs!! G) BE CAREFUL in the backcountry please
  13. i was on the source lake trail about that time today. my partner and i decided not to venture as far as source lake after seeing evidence of very fresh avalanches on the approach trail. fortunately an emergency at home force a quick return for me or we might've changed our minds. we saw several people lingering on the trail near one of the common avalanche shoots which had obviously growing fissures above. BE CAREFUL out there right now. from talking to a few a people it seems the person in question may have been on the N. side of source lake, below chair peak. this is secon hand info though.

    Wow!

iaXX - even if i could ban alex this just doesn't meet my high criteria. it doesn't contain enough misspellings. instead of a direct personal attack on trask, i believe that alex is complimenting trask on his skills. i could be wrong
  16. Trask- just so you know, your ex's probably aren't thinking of you when they're taking care of personal matters.
  17. This uncomfortable undergarment will be a daily reminder to unmarried women to find a husband and a emergency moral reminder to her would-be-suitor. (For use under traditional underwear only.) This product is designed to fit juniors. It fits snug, sizes run small. Please see our size chart for more information. i see they're watching out for the morals of today's youth. is this real? not a joke? omfd! this just has to be a joke right?
  18. alright already! can't you guys take a hint? i stole it from ALPINFOX. it rocks...but i'll return to the bunnies as soon as i can find them
  19. you guys! i stole that from another poster originally...can you guess which one?
  20. whaaaat?? no more humpin' bunnies???? my harddrive crashed yesterday i think the bunnies might be on my home computer. hopefully. b/c i'm not willing to pay trask's price.
  21. i totally stole that from the original poster. i love it! and the bunny avatar has been lost forever to my harddrive
  22. who bans you for poor grammer? you?
  23. it may be sexist...it may not. i think it's a somewhat realistic description of what goes on. and i sure the hell hope you're wrong. i like that there are guys and chicks. sure makes things more interesting. i'm always ready to take it if i fling it so stfu.
  24. Is that "rule" cramping your style? Seems like you should be able to function admirably with the slight handicap of having to avoid female-specific insults, or is that all you got? Or is this a martyr thing? Not sure how you put that together Al but I'm hardly a martyr. Just pointing out the hypocrisy. both of you have a point. i think the problem is that there are words used in reference to women that still contain a big societal stigma. whether they should be or not, they're offensive in a way that has no male equivalent. no one thinks twice if i call somebody a prick (which i'm prone to doing) but if i toss "the c-word" more than a few people will be offended. it probably doesn't hurt to take this type of thing into consideration. that said- men interact socially different than women do. given the ratio of men to women on this board it's obviously going to have a male "feel" i like it, i don't feel denigrated by it and as long as the insults flung in my way are along the lines that would be thrown at a guy i just don't worry too much. spew away! insult at will but it wouldn't hurt to keep a few of the nastier words in check.
