thanks DeC -- i already know that i'm old. but i'm not THAT old like you. i was actually hoping for some info from folks who have had similar pain since climbers seem to have the occasional bit of hand tendon/ligament injuries.

thanks--i need to get off my ass and go see a physician. it isn't red or swollen. there are no extra lumps, bumps, or nodules. the thumb doesn't seem to be involved. no 'clicking' of tendon or ligaments. it's just frustrating. there's no specific even associated with the pain. it easily could've started from doing some climbing last summer, shoveling an epic amount of dirt out of my backyard, arthritis?, who knows. i'm a clutz and don't notice when i hurt myself sometimes.

For about the past 8 - 10 months i've been having weird pain in the back of my hand. it is right in/below the knuckle below the index finger. it's a sharp pain that is intense enough that it feels like its burning. it is not constant. it happens if i pick something up with my fingers or if i press down as though i were doing a push-up. i'm too stubborn/lazy/busy to go to the doctor. anyone know anything about this sort of thing?

hmmm...wow. after reading this, all i can say is that i am a complete and total hypocrite. as a parent, you know your kid is going to cross some imaginary line that you have. you know they're going to get themselves in trouble. i guess the line is just different for all of us. for those that aren't parents yet, the thing i didn't understand as a kid was this: it wasn't that my parents were mean, uptight, stupid. i wasn't in trouble b/c i had broken the rules, been disrespectful, or rude. i was in trouble b/c they wanted me to be safe and happy. that's it. right or wrong, their rules were put in place for that reason...safe and happy...nothing more complicated or nefarious.
