  1. They like to work the Pine Street exit on rainy days. That way they can stay dry and comfortable.
  2. You made my day this morning by writing tickets for the diamond lane violators at the metered onramp at NE 175th who think that their time is so much more valuable than mine. It's nice to see them pay for their priviledged status. The State needs the money.
  3. Nope. No booty. They figured it out. It just took them a couple of hours to do it. Belayer apparently had enough cigarettes to last him while he waited.
  4. We watched a couple of young fellows get a bit over their heads on Three O'Clock Rock. They made it part way up Cornucopoeia. Then they veered off onto Dick's demise (alt finish to Big Tree One- dirty groove with grass growing out of it) for a ways, then back onto Cornucopoeia. Finally, after more than half the rope was out, the leader couldn't make the moves, so he built a gear anchor on what was probably the only crack on the pitch. Rather than bringing his partner up, the partner stayed clipped to the lower anchor and allowed the leader to pull up the rope. Now you have two climbers isolated from one another, one with the rope and the other marooned. I hollered over to ask that if they needed any help, we'd eventually be rapping down their way. The leader said he'd wait for us. I also suggested that the leader could rap down to a nearby bolt and tie his ropes to it. Then he could break down his anchor and downclimb to the bolt, which he eventually did. He got part way down and then fell on the bolt. After that he rapped from a leaver biner to a second anchor and then from that to his partner. We retrieved the biner he left and returned it to them at the base. Earlier that morning we'd given them a copy of the topo. They'd left it at the base of the route. One of them said they don't use topos. They like their adventure. I'm certainly glad that no one got hurt.
  5. What a way to make a cc.com debut.
  6. Might want to do something along the lines of Der Sportsman, in Leavenworth. Carry the sorts of things climbers forget and need at the last minute: chalk, guidebooks, quickdraws, hats and the like.
  7. This thread now belongs in the Pirates Forum.
  8. The weather forecast is a bit better for Thursday than it is for Wednesday, so Thursday is the day for me this week.
  9. H. L. Mencken was the Nostradamus of the Twentieth Century.

  17. Funny? That strikes me as plain mean.
  18. Rabbit, you should understand when we talk about permits we are talking about camping permits. To my knowledge there is no restriction on day use. Most camping permits are only required in certain heavily visited places, such as Boston Basin, Mt. Triumph, Eldorado, Cacade Pass area, etc. A lot of climbers have been doing traditionally multiday climbs as one day pushes to avoid the hassles involved in getting permits.
  19. Go check it out. You might learn something. They do some cool stuff, like throwing all sorts of heavy objects, like cabers- or what you and I might call telephone poles.
  20. Putting a guard dog in charge of a teddy bear museum. Good idea? or Bad idea? You be the judge.
  21. Are you talking about your new projects? I might just do that.
  22. I've had good luck renting plastics and bad luck. Whatever you do, try to get them fit right and bring Moleskin with you. Put it on at the first sign of rubbing.

Dude, just throw one of these babies in the pool and see what happens!
  24. There are three main areas: Far Side, Trestle, and Mt. Washington. You'd have to know where the group was going. See www.northbendrock.com for maps to the various areas.
  25. Nah, it only LOOKS like he's standing on it- an illusion. I'll bet they were glad about not having to descend the Kautz when it was 4 pm on the summit.
