[TR] Skaha- The Cave + some pitches 9/8/2006
catbirdseat replied to slothrop's topic in British Columbia/Canada
Well at least you didn't get hanta virus. That is scary shit, man- literally. -
How can you make a guy choose between two friends like that? It's like asking a guy to choose between pizza and beer. It's not right.

The story stops on purpose. You are supposed to think the author reentered the cave and never returned to finish writing. I liked the story. Very creative. It would be a great one to tell around the campfire. I was wondering about the TR though. Who in their right minds would plan to do a cave route with only one headlamp? You read trip reports all the time from people benighted without headlamps. They figured they'd finish the route in daylight but were too slow. But going in a cave and not bringing a headlamp for each climber? -
Once the price gets high enough change will begin, but not before. You can't get people to change just by telling them to do it. They'll respond to price and price alone. It's going to be painful, no doubt about it. As Dru likes to point out, too bad we canned the monorail. That was one of the dumbest decisions the Seattle voters ever made. If that vote were held now, the results would have been different, but gas prices were still cheap at the time.

What did you post? Pornography? Advertising? Either will get you moderated.

Thank you. That's what I wanted to know. So what is the proper rating for COD? I've seen it rated 5.10b according to some. If it's really 5.9, I'd just go for it. But Castle Rock 5.9 can be quite hard.

Can I get onto Canary p2 from Old Gray Mare?

Crack of Doom is 5.10a, if I recall. Do I have a different option if I don't want to lead Crack of Doom?

...and let's not forget his total war doctrine which (rightly or wrongly) left an estimated 3 million japanese civilians incinerated on the streets and in the homes of most major cities there. Yet FDR is a universally loved icon of the american left today. I just don't get it. I get it. Better to kill 3 million of the enemy to let them kill 100,000 of your own people. It's a no-brainer.

I'm looking for information on these two less often climbed route on Castle Rock in Tumwater Canyon. I'd heard Saints is somewhat lichen covered, especially on the second pitch. Is it worth doing? On Old Gray Mare, what do you do after the first pitch? It's a one pitch route, right? Then you finish on the second pitch of Canary?

I'll bet the kids just love you. Don't the tools leave burrs all over the bars?

You know what that stuff is? Almost, but not quite, Bio Diesel. And Dru, isopropanol can be murder on your cuticles.

Ha, ha, ha, ha. Look who's talking!

But what does any of this have to do with extroversion?

Nail polish removers typically have, in addition to acetone, various esters, such as butyl acetate. There aren't many all-purpose paint removers. If you want safe, you have to find the one that is specific to the sort of paint, be it alkyd, enamel, laquer, etc. The nasty, universal removers all seem to have methylene chloride in them.

As I recall you asked to be banned because you wanted to break away. What made you decide to come back?

This article was on the front page of the PI. I think it is germaine to the discussion. It shows how we've made similar mistakes in the past and have regretted them, as someone already stated. Japanese Internment

Could this be the end of the U.W. Rock?
catbirdseat replied to Lowell_Skoog's topic in Climber's Board
All I know is I have to cross that suck-ass bridge every day to get to work, and if they don't replace it soon it's going to sink, like the old I-90 bridge. -
If we can't torture you, how are we going to find out whether or not you are a terrorist or not?

Chuck, where do you think the "Ramps to Nowhere" came from? There was once a plan to do just that. -
Way to go Jay. Completely divert the discussion with an off-topic article. Very Bush of you.

Could this be the end of the U.W. Rock?

There was a plan to use tolls to pay for the new bridge. They were going to start raising money by imposing tolls on the old bridge immediately, if I recall correctly. The residents sued in court citing a statute that stated that once the bonds on the original bridge were paid off, tolls could not be reimposed. They won. -

There was a push about ten years ago to replace the 520 Bridge. The Montlake people managed to kill it then. It's now to a point where they can't kill it. It's reached a critical point where something must be done soon. -
Dru knows this from experience. He knows his shit.

As applied to non-citizens. Not that I agree with it.
