  1. As climbers and citizens you have an interest in this initiative. It would require the government to pay a land owner any time a land-use regulation affects the value of his land. Because the government does not have the resources to pay off the billions of dollars that would be required, cities and counties would have to gut their zoning laws and other land use regulations to avoid the payouts. The result would be little to no regulation of land use. There would be a great deal of negative environmental consequences. VOTE NO on 933! Here is the text of the initiative in PDF format.
  2. That's a shitty thing to say. You take a young guy full of piss and vinegar who's not been outside much and he sees this cool rock wall. He doesn't have the experience or the judgement to tell him to back off. It happens all the time. Research has shown recently that the part of the brain that deals with judgement is the last part to mature, especially in males.
  3. I still want to go give that Orange Blossom Special a try.
  4. Friends who have them seem to like them. I borrowed red and yellow cams to lead Tangled Up in Blue at Vantage, and they seemed fine. The placements were as stable as Camalots. The high price is holding me back from actually buying them. I've been buying Camalot C4s lately. Here's a thread on rockclimbing.com about the cleaning issue. Apparently, some of the first cams released had lube that was too light. They've since switched to a heavier lube that does the job. http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1358188#1358188 Some more info- scroll to third page: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewt...w=&start=30

    Botfly

    It's HUGE!
  6. It might work, but it might not. Certainly acetone is one of the safest from a environmental and health standpoint.
  7. Dude, beware the slippery bolt slope. Stay on the wagon. If asked I would not have approved of the carving on Air Guitar. The plaque perhaps, but not the carving. It's kind of like those monuments along the roadside. How can you tell someone they can't do that after they've lost a loved one? Still, a temporary monument would have been better.
  8. LePage Super Poly Strippa MSDS
  9. No that is on the west side of the peak.
  10. Don't forget one of the nicest aspects of slab climbing is that your beer gut doesn't get in the way, as it does on steeper stuff.
  11. People make strange decisions sometimes. No one will ever know why he decided to go where he did. These sorts of tragic accidents are all too common and senseless.
  12. The standard treatment appears to have been to cover the graffiti with paint of a color that matches the rock. It is difficult to do this perfectly. Sandblasting would probably be best but would be very costly and time-consuming, not to mention it alters the rock. There is a solvent-based removal scheme but I know very little about it.
  13. Where are the scabby legs and the black toenails?
  14. I heard about this on KPLU this afternoon and looked it up on the PI website. Sounds as though the unfortunate man may have wandered up one of the climbers trails, perhaps to Nevermind Wall or Deception Ledge. Hiker Dies: PI Article
  15. I noticed that there is a great deal of new graffiti at the Feathers. Now that the concert season is over it's time to remove or cover the unsightly crap. I don't have any experience with this but would be willing to help someone who does.
  16. Hey, I just asked for clarification. I did not pass judgment on you.
  17. Something to Work With
  18. It took you about 11 hours to do Outer Space? Is that right?
  19. I climbed at Vantage all weekend. It was sunny, warm and nice. Worked on my suntan. Sunshine Wall was crowded on all the usual routes, so we went to Corn and Millennium Walls and Riverview Crags where we saw no one.
  20. Nice TR. Those pictures are tantalizing. Major Sierra envy going on here.
  21. Someone with more than 30,000 posts?
  22. Yes, although I'd say Air Guitar is the easiest 5.10a at Vantage. Go try George and Martha some time.
  23. There are a few biners that are captive at both ends. It's an old rant of Chuck's, so old it's now an inside joke. DEADLY DOGBONES!!!!! You will die!
  24. So you mean to say you will give yourself constipation so that you can become a "human poop tube"?
  25. There are lots of things we do that don't have good data to back them up.
