  1. Whatever you use, you'll want to have about three rolls of paper towels. It would be more of a spray and blot process, otherwise, yes the solvent would just make the paint run down the rock to a new place.
  2. Wrong. Larger people have a larger surface area, and therefore lose more heat through convection than smaller people. Think again. Volume increases as the cube whereas surface area increases as the square.
  3. Like picking your nose. You hope no one is watching when you do it.
  4. All I have to do is consider the source of that comment. Clearing the road was nice of him. Now could he get rid of that nasty old mining/logging debris? Thanks in advance Damn, I sure hope you are kidding about the mining relics. That stuff is cool. It's been there since the 1890's, I think, from the Bornite Mine.
  5. I want to have due process applied to ME, if someone points a finger at me and says, "you're a terrorist!".
  6. It doesn't matter what THEY believe in. It's what WE believe in.
  7. I'm not saying anything about innocence or guilt, actually. Just arguing for a set of standards that distinguishes soldiers from terrorists. I could care less if they get trials that make the Milosevic trial look like a model of brevity, so long as there's some recognition that there's a moral distinction to be made between the average private in an interstate conflict, and Mohammad Atta et al. Applying the Geneva convention to members of Al-Queda or their jihadi counterparts seems to repudiate the notion that such a distinction exists. Damn, you just don't get it, man. Everyone should have the same standard of justice applied to them. EVERYONE.
  8. You are falling into the same way of thinking that the Bushies have fallen into. The idea that someone is guilty until proven innocent. It's one thing to say someone is a terrorist, but it's another thing to prove it.
  9. I'm weary of it too, I've climbed it so many times.
  10. I am sure that korup could tell you all about the pharmaceutical industry and how unit costs are miniscule, whereas the development costs are huge.
  11. Matt's shoes fit so well, he can wear them on either foot.
  12. You have to know the right people, and they must LIKE you.
  13. So what's the story behind this Bollywood phenomenon?
  14. You aren't worried about the forecast of rain for Sunday?
  15. We'll call you Jacob Marley. But seriously, why not just wear a pack with water bottles in it? I think Jens has done some of this sort of training. You should ask him.
  16. You guys sure hold me to a high standard. Who's to say where physical development of the brain ends and plain old learning begins? You know the old saying, "good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgement" (to paraphrase).
  17. I read it in the PI some time ago. You made me go look it up. I think that the age of 16 is traditionally considered to be when the brain's judgement abilities mature, but there have been imaging studies suggesting that it this takes place as late as 25 years. I wish I could find a reference to the one I read. Heavy consumption of alcohol in the teen years can permanently impair judgement. Article
  18. Where's Fairweather?
  19. Slothrop's idea are good. Once you start your workout, do a small number of pullups on the largest holds on your hang board. Then start with short hangs from slopers and jugs.
  20. You elect government representatives to make land use regulations that are in the best interest of the citizens as a group. Sometimes those regulations cost individuals money. Zoning laws are a relatively new phenomena. On the whole, they have made our cities better places to live. 933 Opposed by Nature Conservancy
  21. As climbers and citizens you have an interest in this initiative. It would require the government to pay a land owner any time a land-use regulation affects the value of his land. Because the government does not have the resources to pay off the billions of dollars that would be required, cities and counties would have to gut their zoning laws and other land use regulations to avoid the payouts. The result would be little to no regulation of land use. There would be a great deal of negative environmental consequences. VOTE NO on 933! Here is the text of the initiative in PDF format.
  22. That's a shitty thing to say. You take a young guy full of piss and vinegar who's not been outside much and he sees this cool rock wall. He doesn't have the experience or the judgement to tell him to back off. It happens all the time. Research has shown recently that the part of the brain that deals with judgement is the last part to mature, especially in males.
  23. I still want to go give that Orange Blossom Special a try.
  24. Friends who have them seem to like them. I borrowed red and yellow cams to lead Tangled Up in Blue at Vantage, and they seemed fine. The placements were as stable as Camalots. The high price is holding me back from actually buying them. I've been buying Camalot C4s lately. Here's a thread on rockclimbing.com about the cleaning issue. Apparently, some of the first cams released had lube that was too light. They've since switched to a heavier lube that does the job. http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1358188#1358188 Some more info- scroll to third page: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewt...w=&start=30
