Wow, it appears that the skinnier the sling materal is, the greater the percent reduction in strength from girth hitching AND, the two alternate methods, the strop hitch and climer's (or climber's) hitch don't improve matters much.

The fruiting quince tend to be more bush-like. The Smyrna is an attractive and relatively compact tree, but sometimes spring rain causes mildew on the leaves unless you spray. Cook's Jumbo is not really very attractive and I couldn't recommend it in the city.

What do you do on a rainy day when you have two bushels of quince? You make quince jelly, of course. Not many even know what a quince looks like. Stores rarely sell them. The main reason for this is that they bruise easily in transit and they must be cooked before eating. Quince: Sweetmeat to Kings Quince makes a great dessert baked in the oven with some sugar on top. Just peel, core and quarter. If anyone wants some quince, I could bring some to Pub Club on Tuesday.
