  2. How is it Michael Moore finds it so easy to place 100% of the blame on the oil and large companies for everything and not give any blame where it is truly due? On the people! Joe average buying a Suburban or Expedition gets no credit for their personal (bad) choices?!!! This dumbf*ck is as bad as Rush Limbaugh, maybe worse, for the same reasons. Of course, I agree with much of what else he says......guess that speaks poorly of me I suppose. http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=248 "The other front in this war is being waged by the oil companies against you and me. They are committed to fleecing us whenever they can, and they have been reckless stewards of the finite amount of oil that is located under the surface of the earth. They know they are sucking it bone dry. And like the lumber tycoons of the early 20th century who didn't give a damn about future generations as they tore down every forest they could get their hands on, these oil barons are not telling the public what they know to be true -- that there are only a few more decades of useable oil on this planet. And as the end days of oil approach us, get ready for some very desperate people willing to kill and be killed just to get their hands on a gallon can of gasoline."
  3. [video:youtube] Damn, not often one can see something both annoying as hell and funny at the same time. Good take off of the classic Patrick Edlinger film. Nice find.
  4. Damn....backclipped again! Hey, were you warm over there BC ?

    Close Gitmo?

Most likely it's both. There is no question MANY are our enemies. Some are innocent and some are guilty. Sorting that out is a hard row to hoe no doubt. Assuming MOST of these yahoos are guilty and are our enemies, then what? Are they imprisoned for life with no trial? Are those who are innocent then also imprisoned for life? It ain't the American way.
  6. Lets get some new materiel in here
  7. Thanks Dave!~ Hola Sir! Been a long time since I've seen you too.....15 years? Yosemite? You're probably the same age as you were them but Jim's 65 now, probably time for him to quit smoking unfiltered cigs (currently American Spirits). I've been urging ....... Here's what you missed out on (the trip report for moving party at Jims) 2 days ago. http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/880797/all/Beacon_Opdycke_Moving_Party I understand he'll be without a phone for a couple of weeks while he waits to get it installed. I might bump into him this weekend and I'll tell him you said hi, he's always happy to hear you are well. Warm regards
  8. Roofs probably should have a nylon insert locknut -or- Blue or red loctite. You can often pick up climber sized loctite knock off at auto parts stores for a couple of bucks, not the extravagant sum the normal stuff costs.
  9. Did I miss another story Jeff? Does it seem that he must have been downclimbing that short section by the tunnel that access Blackberry Jam? (closest to the BMXers) If so, that would be 3 climbers falling off of that thing, I know of 2 others, one was a CC.com member who was climbing out with a group of CC.comers.
  10. LOL! Maybe you can come down for the next one Wayne!
  11. Whew, well I drive a CR-V....for a moment there..... Thanks for the heads up BTW! I'll bet perhaps Chris just needs some more mileage. Probably newer climber yet and very nervous or something like that. Yowza, I feel like an old man and I'm only 54.
  12. How is it that I get this call from my brother and not from you folks. You know I get my news here! I was just out there belaying Ujahn tonight. (Have my own leg issues, just not whining like this guy. Seriously, glad the guys ok, must have been a long night. Anyone know him or what exactly happened? Hiker Splints Leg, Waits 14 Hours For Help POSTED: 6:51 am PDT May 28, 2009 UPDATED: 10:31 am PDT May 28, 2009 PORTLAND, Ore. -- A climber who suffered a broken leg in a 20-foot fall survived a long night in the woods after his screams for help went unanswered Monday. Alex Edington said he was climbing down the face of Rocky Butte in The Grotto in northeast Portland on Sunday night. About 20 feet from the bottom, he lost his grip. "Shortest way down Rocky Butte is straight down, (so) I tried to climb down it. I ended up holding onto a root that didn't hold and falling," he said. Edington landed feet first, but his left leg buckled from the impact. He broke his femur, his foot and suffered a compound fracture to his lower leg. "I knew that something bad had happened and I was afraid to look," Edington said. "When I looked, I could actually see the bone in the side of my leg sticking out." In severe pain and with his leg bleeding, Edington said instinct took over. He tore his T-shirt and boxers, grabbed some sticks and splinted his own leg. He said he tried to reinforce his lower leg so the bone "wouldn't be popping out of the side." "I just kind of went into survival mode," Edington said. With little daylight left, he tried to stand up on his other leg, but the pain was too intense. Edington screamed for help. He said a group of transients were nearby, but his calls went unanswered. "I kept yelling and yelling," Edington said. "Finally, I gave up and just decided to stay the night." The following morning, his yell was finally heard and someone at a nearby BMX track called 911. "When I finally knew I was going to get help, it was like the sweetest relief," Edington said. Edington survived what he described as the longest and most painful night of his life. He said he didn't sleep more than two minutes. He was hospitalized in serious condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital. Aside from injuries to his leg, Edington suffered a partially collapsed lung and a ruptured disc in his back, but he plans to make a full recovery. "I'm thankful -- it could have been worse," he said. "It could have been a lot worse." He said there's a lot to be determined about his recovery, but he regained feeling in his toes Tuesday."

  15. Hey, my bad knees are real. I had real blood ya know. Besides, I can still belay to 5.12 pfft...I still got up the route after that pic was taken, and so I left a tad early. Good day to you SIR!
  16. Do you mean that now Porter has one more piece of the secret puzzle? There, fixed it.

  18. No Toto? Africa?
  19. Now that is some literature up there! Great stuff JH. Glad someone filled the Tolstoyeskie hole Ivan left. So here's some pics for Wayne and the rest of you folks to accompany said trip report: Jims landlady had been hauled off by the state and placed in a hospital/care facility for almost a year. I talked with her a bit and basically She didn't know where some of the stuff she'd stored in the garage had gone. Of course, no one bothered to tell here the house had sold, for how much or to whom either. She was a sweetheart, but still a tad confused. Bet the confusion did not ease when she found out that the city sanitary people had flagged her home after she'd been ambulanced out of it and that while she was gone, the folks in charge had gone through her house and tossed a bunch of her "treasures" (cough* trash*) in liew of hitting it with a blowtorch. Jim and the Partee House. Hmmm....party house is the way that's pronounced. Joseph had rented a moving van, here's Kenny and JH hiding out in it both to keep it organized as more and more VHS bookcases were tossed into it and perhaps so that they weren't having to herd cats. After the move in the yard. Folks were hungry, Jim had found some donuts during the move that must have been stuffed under the couch or someplace like it and graciously offered them to his hard working crew. Someone noted that the expiration date was June 2002, 7 years previous....Joseph stuffed one down anyway. Got to love preservatives eh? Heading home now, Bye bye house.
  20. oh it's just words man....they don't really mean much do they?
  21. I remember those days with fondness. (insert obvious envy here) Take care!
  22. You can post this in partners as well if you need to increase your chestbeating exposure. Something like, "Partners needed for major 8000 meter expedition"......
  23. Well I just consulted the guidebook and it turns out that the tree is "ON" after all cause it says so! "Lizard Locks 5.10b This is the obvious crack near the Eastern side of the wall. The start, shared by Introductory Offer, is 3 stacked blocks at head height in between 2 shallow caves. This is the opening sequence to both routes. One strategy, employed on the FA, was to boulder the loose looking lumpy blocks for 12' (and which may in fact not be there, but on the ground or down the hill somewhere when you get there), step left 5-7 feet and then up, waiting until you're @20' off the deck and looking at a bad, testicular shrinking, fern crushing fall to place your first pro at the base of the obvious crack with a #3 friend as the first piece so that your pieces align and do not cause rope drag. Another #3 or 3-1/2" cam will avoid a highball fall and protect the move to get to the crack if you are so inclined. Small cams to 1" will get you up the solid finger and hand locks. Say hi to the Northern Alligator Lizard if he hasn't moved on yet which had casually wandered over stared at the first ascentionist as he cruised past. Strangly, the Lizard allowed himself to be touched as if he had actually wandered over to have his back scratched. Head up past a small 2" diameter tree growing right out of the crack; try not to break off this handhold/foothold /asscheek rest and finish up and slightly to the right of the buttress and then on easier moves directly to the huge fir with the rap anchor on it. Rap off the fir. FA Bill Coe, Jim Opdycke, Ujahn Davvison"
  24. I recognize it. WTF, aren't you suppose to be tearing up the valley right now?
