Christ, you guys are worse than ISA 9000. I was up at Baker this weekend and it was dumping snow. Does that mean it was winter or spring? or should we call it 'winting'? is it only the date that matters? I think every time that you misuse a word we should point it out along with a thread on w-m.com of it being used correctly. Great climb guys. Thinking about doing this same route first weekend of may. Oh wait. the 1st of May is on a sunday. Does that mean it's the first weekend of May or the last weekend of April? Pandora - Maybe you can point me to a thread of how to determine how i should correctly notate the weekend for the TR. How embarrasing it would be if i called my May ascent an April one!

I find it so amusing to hear all the subaru owners saying SUVs suck. I think you're splitting hairs when you call you seperate the outback and xterra into two different categories of car. There ain't a whole lot of difference. Subaru owners will just pay more to say they don't own an "SUV". I own a Honda/Isuzu Passport and it's alright. It's reliable (my guess, more reliable than a subaru), but the gas mileage does suck (much worse than 17 in city). Luckily, I take the bus to work 4 out of the 5 days a week so i'm only filling up on my trips. Would I buy another one? Probably not. But i have to admit that it fits 4 people with gear nicely and I can sleep in the back and it's not so big. I can see all around the thing and I think the Xterra is the same way. Unlike the Monterro, explorer and others.

The xterra gets slightly less gas mileage 17/22 versus 19/25, but has more space, a bigger power, better clearance, and is cheaper. Subaru owners are like apple owners. Except that the subaru's are rarely attractive.

They shut down the place I loved to eat at on the way to Baker. Assuming I can't make it to the North Fork in time, where does one eat in Sedro? Is that Greek place any good? I'm always amused to see 4x4s with gun racks parked in front of a Greek restaurant...

The Code is good candy, but that's all it is. Can't believe you thought it was going to be some great work of art. It's a book made to be a movie, pure and simple.

I like Mt Baker's backcountry policy, but I'm biased as I take advantage of it all the time. However, I would say that there are many people out there that don't seem like they should be, but I've talked to groups that skinned up Herman and didn't think they should be out there either. Somethnig that came to mind recently... A few weeks back, we headed up to Baker on Friday night because it had just dumped 28 inches in the last 24 hours. Saturday morning we arose to another 5, I believe. We immediately knew that it was going to be an inbounds day and that there wolud be great boarding inside the lines. I brought my transceiver to the mountain, but left it in the car. We hit first chair and spent the morinng and early afternoon under chair 6 having a great. However, by 11 or 12 I was amazed to see groups out on the arm, hemispheres, and on table mountain. Now I'll admit that I don't know a ton about avie conditions, but NWAC was reporting considerable danger and it was still snowing on top of all that fresh even that morning. Being out in the BC jsut seemed retarded. Am I mistaken? Later that night I was in The Tap Room and ended up talking to a group from Canada. They had never been to Baker but spent the day out on Table. I asked them if they were at all concerned about avie conditions and he said something like... "Well, there was a group ahead of us that did a block test and we saw them ski down all at the same time (i.e. not 1 at a time) and nothing happened. It seemed fine." He seemed completely clueless.

A couple friends and I want to do a 4 day hut-to-hut trip in WA, OR, or BC. We'll be riding splitboards. If somebody could recommend some good references, i'd appreciate it.

My favorite is when SG is packed and you have a bunch of tools that want to traverse the whole gym.

Baker was awesome on Saturday! Stayed inbounds (avy conditions seemed nasty) and had a blast. Put my car sideways into a tree that night though. Luckily only damaged the driver-side quarter panel. Make for an expensive weekend.
