  2. I take it back...looks like a lot of anonymous folks are perusing a variety of threads.
  3. The Main Index says there are 108 people viewing Climbing Partners, yet the numbers of thread hits is not increasing accordingly...or else everybody is captivated by that 8,000 meter troll.
  4. I've just wanted to see what this troller's game is. Kind of strange that it took till the middle of page 2 for people to call Bullshit. My take on it is that he's getting a dollar every time he posts the phrase "8k peak."
  5. um, yes, I remembered that. that's the last time I attempt ironic humor with you, young man...

Hey NOLSe, where can I get that t-shirt?
  8. These guys have pretty well summed it up. A couple of additional thoughts (especially if you're over 30): -Under-training (or over-training), or running a too-fast pace over this distance can result in injury. Make sure your training period is sufficient to gently build up the weekly mileage, and factor your race pace to your training pace. -In fact, do everything in training similar to what you plan to do in races. This includes water and food intake. While it's easy to get your water in the race, I've found it harder to plan for sufficient water on really long training runs. -My older brother and a couple of his buddies are over-50 marathoners who have consistently qualified for Boston through the years. Their long runs top out at the full 26.2, not just 20. I know that the training plans stop at 20 because they are balancing the risk of injury with the odds of completing the race. But just training to 20 is a strategy for surviving it, not for posting a qualifying time. Dwayner's right, the last 6.2 is the fun part. Like most endurance fun, you either do well in those final minutes, and forget about the pain within a few hours...or else you do lousy and are haunted for months by your poor performance, till you run another one.
  9. j_b, face up to it. With you and this Michael Moore thing, it's really about the ends justifying the means, isn't it. Talk about the one who sounds pathetic here.

  11. I actually dislike Bush a great deal myself. It's really too bad that the Democrats have fielded such a poor alternative. But, will, thank God that McCain didn't get elected president. As the US is finding out how we've been duped into NAFTA and other lopsided 'free trade' initiatives, McCain rolls on with his mission of increasing that giant sucking sound in this country. I think McCain has a psychological problem stemming from his Vietnam experience---"soldier's guilt." He seems bound and determined to support unrestricted trade with Vietnam, for instance, even when it's apparent that the Vietnamese government is subsidizing trade in order to import $.
  12. j_b, this is a classic bit of penmanship on your part. While I would expect for you to do your usual 'go on the offense as a defense' by defaming NPR, I really am shocked at your morally-bankrupt claim that F911 "does not do any of the things mentioned in the article above." You are lying to yourself, dude. Yes, Michael Moore, is a self-promoting lying rascal. The fact that you and your ilk want to believe what he infers doesn't make him any less so. Fucking-A, I'd hate to be relying on you out in the wild. I might find you face-to-face with a bear, mumbling to yourself that he wasn't really there.
  13. ChucK, maybe you don't remember the time Clinton got his million-dollar haircut that brought regional air travel to a standstill.
  14. This is fucking priceless. Nowhere else could we find somebody attacking Scott Simon as a right-leaning idiot and hypocrite. J_b, are you posting from the Protestor's Corner in Boston?
  15. Scott Simon says Moore uses innuendo and half-truths at the expense of accurate portrayal, and will therefore "never be a guest on his show." (today's Wall St Journal) Thanks for speaking up Scott.

    mmm...Pee...

[scottish Daily Record] - July 22, 2004 - Troops could get more than they bargained for the next time they find pea soup in their rations. Scientists have come up with a way to use urine to rehydrate dried food. The ration comes in a pouch containing a filter that gets rid of 99.9 per cent of the toxic chemicals. That means pee - or even the muddiest swamp water - could be used to make battlefield meals. Soldiers' new chow was invented by the US Army's Combat Feeding Directorate in Natick, Massachusetts. Two years ago, the same organisation came up with the 'indestructible sandwich' that stays fresh for three years. The aim of the exercise is to reduce the amount of water soldiers need to carry. One day's food supply of three meals weighs almost 8lb but that can be reduced to less than 1lb with the dehydrated pouches. Prototype pouches contain chicken and rice. A soldier pours liquid into one end of a foil sachet. Inside, it has two pouches separated by a membrane. Holes in the thin sheets of cellulose-based plastic are big enough to let water molecules through but too small for bacteria. US firm Hydration Technology, who make the membrane, say soldiers should only use urine in an absolute emergency because the sachet will not filter out urea - the chemical that makes pee yellow. Although harmless in the short term, constantly rehydrating food this way could cause kidney damage. © 2004 Scottish Daily Record. via ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved
