  1. The SMC pickets are cheap and they come with a pointed end. As jordonp pointed out this is great for firm snow, when you can trust a pick placement, or to kill snaffles. I find most of the time my pickets stay on my pack and i've only rearly used them for belays

  5. Mattp's trip report on sloan has me thinking that might be a bad idea.
  6. Anyone want to go climbing on friday - saturday. The weather looks like it might hold, yeah i know you can't trust the forecast that long in winter but what the hell. I don't have a car.
  7. Depends if he climbs If this summer there is a route that i want to do in the stuart range and i'm feeling particulary unimagitive so i can't come up with something else. I'll call and see if i can get a permit. If they say no then I'm going without a permit. And sorry to sound like a dumbass teenager here but i'll be if i let they catch me. Also there are a lot of ways to access the stuart range, i here rat creek got some nice brush. I don't think there going to ban people from the whole stuart range though do to the road repairs. Where they planning on making it off limits last year?
  8. perhaps it is the dr. doing a little trad as he tells us he has done from time to time. Just curious whats everyones favorite alpine trad route?
  9. Unless you eat less, calorie intake less then calories burnt= weigh loss.
  10. I don't now if it is. But i've done any modern mixed so wtf do i know. But check this out http://www.m9ice.com/video1.htm That fall at the end looks tasty, I would hate to be his belay slave.
  11. yup, frenchman Phillipe Pellet, according to rock and ice he dropped two
  12. I like how Nelson gives the route a grade as well as the approach. This way you can tell if its a possible car to car or if bivi will be required.

    Dogs?

I see these type of tracks where dogs are not allowed all the time. See snoboys post about being perfectly trained wether it be dogs or humans.

    Dogs?

I have to agree with N by NW on horse crap. It smells worst then dog crap too. I'm a dog owner and I do take him on a leash. However Sometimes we both just need to run or he needs to run and i need to run to keep up and the leash becomes a pain.

    Name the Scribe

if by closer jordonp was refering to closer to the nw. I would say it would have to be house cause twight was from seattle. And i can't think of anyone else who would have said it. Maybe this will lead to dwyaner posting a picture of big lou.

    Name the Scribe

Colin Wells wrote the Kirkpatrick article but I don't believe it was him. My first guess would be twight cause he is the classic unhappy alpine extremist. 2nd guess Messner

He DOES type with a Hungarian accent. I SUDDENLY HAVE LESS RESPECT FOR TRASK..... Suddenly i have MORE respect for Trask
  23. I believe Josh K has got it right. Heres some things that a gaper like me would like rei to carry at a price less then the name brand equivelent. A light weight ice axe Helmet wire gate biners for less then 7$ a bivy sac (after all there half doom tent is the best bargain around) 12 point newmatic crampons atc etc I you could probably make all of these by more less copying namebrand designs I think the reason people are calling the board members yuppies is because rei now caters more to yuppies and not climbers. So climbers feel like the rich suscessful board members are just yuppies. Plus when you look at the descriptions of the board members there all owner of internet start up etc not owner of internet start up that enjoys rock climbing and backcountry skiing. So if anyone gets on the ballot and will work to bring decent house brand gear i'll get a membership and vote for you.
