Ii is also good to go up boston basin, ignore the boston/sahale col. Go straight up this snow gully just to the right of boston's summit and then descend onto the boston glacier and do a carry over.

The view of the dome cirque from lizard pass as your crest above the south cascade glacier makes going north to south all the better.

I also tried that last year and didnt go for it due to time issues. But I am planning on going back asap, this time with my skis. I think traversing below the sumit at that notch is the fastest.

Enchantments - trail conditions to Snow Lakes
Ned_Flanders replied to Dustin_B's topic in Alpine Lakes
Now I am unaware of what jantz did that weekend, although I think he left the car with a few tools. -
Early Saturday morning, Jim and I set out to ski Kaleteen. We were still able to put on our skis at the trailhead and made it up easily to the first pass in 2 hrs, 20 minutes. The ski down to the lakes was great, fast boot deep corn. From there we noticed that Kaleteen was melting out by the summit and we realized that we wouldnt be able to ski near the top. We saw 3 gullies to take to reach kaleteen. The last one had some navigation issues, the second to last one had a huge cornice, so we opted for the first one. Some steep exposed skinning and then finally giving way to booting lead us to the ridge. From there we saw our traverse to the peak, however the Cascades had something else in mind. A storm quickly moved in, therefore we decided to ski down that gulley and get the hell out of there. We skiinned up quickly to the pass above Chair Peak Lake in very high winds. The weather got worse as it turned into a white out along with some rain. From the pass, it looked like snow lake was melted out. We still went down all the way to the lake to see how bad it was. We were able to ski on the lake, while closely hugging the left shore line. I aquired so much crap on my skiis, that I was able to skin up to the ridge above snow lake without skins. It stopped raining and was back to the car very quickly after that. I only noticed one slide which came off the rock above source lake. Joshua

Yeah, you mention climbing a gully after the rabbit ears. On frostbite ridge after the rabbit ears is a 100 feet 3rd class downclimb, then a traverse which leads to the inside of the crater. I dont remember climbing any gully on frostbite ridge. -

The fur trapper was pretty fucked up. He had just been stomped upon and recited to by the entire contents of this audience. And you know what that can do to a guy who is wearing a parka. So he gets up, looks around, looks around again, and looks around again. And then he says. And you can sing along if you know the words. I cant see. I cant see. I cant see. I cant see. He took a dog doo snow cone and stuffed it in my right eye. He took a dog doo snow cone and stuffed in my other eye. And the huskey wee wee, I mean the doogie wee wee has blinded me. Great googlie mooglie. I cant see, temporarily.

I did the traverse in the first week september 2001. Glacier route finding was that much of a problem except getting onto the Le Conte Glacier. There was a 20 foot vertical ice step above a chasm which was necessary to gain the glacier. We luckily brought a tool with us, so that wasnt a big problem, but it would have sucked without it.
