Nope, You develop schizophrenia and are generally male and it develops in the late teens or early twenties. Look familiar? If you ever been around a paranoid schizophrenic you should try it sometime. Also people get cancer, break limbs and get other diseases that are not their parent's fault. So shut the fuck up. This Mom didn't survive as did did not 25 others. It is serious business.

Shapp, My limit is 5 feet bodyboarding, 10 feet bodysurfing, zero feet surfing (I just like to hold the board on shore to impress the chicks). I have seen people at Waimea do 25 feet and it is frightening. I snorkel and free dive but don't scuba. I am envious about Grand Caymans. The comment about the locals brings up one memory. Asking a local fisherman what he was fishing for and he said "fish" And the boar hunting is bow and arrow and on steep slopes. Don't take your wife or GF unless they are informed.

How do you know that she did not have them in a lock box? Well, we definitely know that she failed to keep them secure one way or another, didn't she? That's how responsibility works. It was her job to be responsible for those guns. She failed. Oh, and let's not forget this is not a minor living in the home - the perpetrator was a grown adult, aged 20. And yes, that matters. Yes it does! But she needed to stay aware of his general demeanor. Just for the hell of it I will say my son was a schizophrenic, which I will bet is this dude's problem. My son committed suicide instead of killing 26 people. This is why I am so involved in this thread.

Only for common citizens. Criminally inclined always find a way. Depending on how long they are in prison. And they don't really care how long. Then back out and do it again. It's their lifestyle.
-
Which is kind of why I made the comments I made. I believe in gun ownership but responsibly. Apparently it doesn't always work like that.

How do you know that she did not have them in a lock box? She would have to have kept the code a secret. Which is kind of the purpose of a lockbox or gun cabinet.

You can't control other people's behavior. Adult lions kill the young of a rival to ensure they are next in line (not a Dio reference per se). Pack animals (wolves, hyenas, etc.) do what they have to do. We are at the top of the food chain but chaos and violence erupts now and then. Unless we have our head in the lion's mouth and don't have a weapon.

The murderer's mother was held responsible in the end - she paid the ultimate penalty If she had guns in a lockbox and not in the closet or under the pillow or under the couch this could have been prevented. It is a terrible tragedy but owning guns is a big responsibility.

1) For one person a 22 at point blank at the base of the head 2) 9 mil, one in the head and one in the heart, mob style. 3) Shotgun if you don't have good aim 4) Rifle if you are a sniper type 5) Assault rifle for doing the most damage in minimal time 6) Grenades, bombs, and etc. follow. Gun control won't fix any one of these things. Keep your shit safe and have good judgment.

I agree. The dark secret is that Haoles are frowned upon, especially when they stay at big resorts, wear designer clothing and NEVER GET IN THE WATER and never get off Oahu. You have it figured out. The next step is to go spearfishing, grab some spiny lobsters, surf some big waves, and hunt wild boar on Kauai and you are ready to be adopted. Then put on a disguise and go to Mama's Fish House on Maui, one of the best restaurants on earth. Don't forget to take your wallet.

A mass killing in this country is often due to mental illness and we should be paying attention. It will pay many more dividends than any gun control laws. There are only about a million ticking time bombs. Nothing to worry about. Mobsters, gangsters, robbers, and just plain mad people deal with small numbers unless religion and a different country is involved. No offense to anyone is intended.

I have never climbed there but this thread is worth the absolute zero effort required to find out about it. I was going to try to find it once but got distracted and hiked Mt. Pugh instead.
-
How many of the people in all those countries have a lockbox or have been to a firearms course? I didn't see where N. Korea and Syria are on the list. And there is a reason why CSI, Law and Order, and Criminal Minds exist. They draw ideas from real life.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. On the other hand gun ownership should involve lockboxes for handguns and shells for shotguns, rifles, and of course AK47s are illegal anyway right? That means an illegal weapon will become even more illegal with a new law and it will vaporize and we will all have to fight with knives and swords and cut people's heads off with a guillotine like back when things were civilized. But it is a serious issue to have an uncontrolled gun in the house. Afterthought: A mixed martial artist could have done the same thing in about the same time without any weapon at all.

Right now your sarcasm is killing me. The first time you are in front of a mentally ill person with a big gun, you have to decide whether it is better for them to be well armed or you. Excellent point. We should just keep guns easily available. I mean, you can't escape violence anyway. School shooting like this? You can't stop them, because violence is inevitable. So let's just legalize automatic weapons and nukes. Because people will fid some way to kill each other anyway. Right? Herp derp!

Best place near Seattle for trad gear practice?
matt_warfield replied to jk82's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
I would recommend granite to start. Basalt, tuff, and rhyolite and etc. is a little squirrely for trad. -
I am from Montana. Come down and debate with the locals. Don't come unarmed. And the only way to avoid violence is to wake up every morning, lay on the floor and stare at the ceiling until you die. Otherwise shit is going to happen from the fringe.

Leavenworth or Index or Squamish. Smith if you are are tuff enough. The unfortunate thing about Seattle is you can sniff GOOD trad climbing but most of it is 1-3 hrs. away. -
I know you are a teacher so understand. But a stone cold killer with a couple 9 mms and a couple clips or an AK47 puts the Portland mall shooting to shame.
-
Instead of focusing on gun control, we should focus on mental illness. There is always a weapon for those so inclined to hurt themselves or others. And while this is terrible, for perspective 800,000 people were killed in the Hutu/Tutsi genocide. Shit is going to happen until the end of time.

You have it exactly right. Flu could be the least of our problems.
-
Or have Javier Bardem from "No Country for Old Men" do it. It will be free of pain and worry. Watch out for a tank instead of a syringe.
-
Your comment is fine about sport climbers. They just have to "Just do It" in a new decade. And without taking away from your candidates, the Heisman race for trad should not have left out somebody named Caldwell. And I would still like to see Ondra hand stack and Leavitate on 5.13 offwidth or follow Pamela Pack around. I am not saying it wouldn't happen but I like evidence rather than speculation.
-
Ondra #5 at La Sportiva comp out of 5. No offwidths or slabs involved. Salute Canada.

Metallica used to be immune to media since they are the BEST but also denied us the ability to freely hear them online. It is the challenge of the interweb: pricing free exposure versus charging for everyting. It is V9 marketing.
