archenemy, lawgoddess, Doctor Flash Amazing (probably same one Minx mentioned), and lisa. And the dozens who just register for advertising or PM privileges to engage with active members. Good job admins for doing your best to minimize that by monitoring members with 0 posts or just a few with no climbing content. My favorite was displayqueen (0 posts) whose occupation was "massage therapist" and interests were "climbing on mountains and other things" and PMd me to meet sometime and accompany me on any climbing trip to make sure I was HAPPY and ready in the mornings to go climbing.

Smartasses aside, generally the road is closed at Icicle in winter. But technically the Stuart TH is open year round, it just depends on whether you can drive there or not. So I am a smartass too.

[TR] Week of the Snowpocolypse - 12/24/2012
matt_warfield replied to PowderGangster's topic in the *freshiezone*
Some damn fine skiers that post on this site that are also damn fine climbers. In fact Triple Couloirs on Dragontail shown in the middle of the first two pictures of kevino's recent Colchuck conditions post has been reported on here both climbing and skiing. -
[TR] Mark goes to the city with 3 girls and 2 dogs - many 6/18/2011

Great TR. My first seeing this but that is what Xmas Day is for (among other things) But I agree with Off, JTree is definitely bigger and likely also exceeds the "getting lost" potential. -
Good comment. always a few rednecks around. they prer No Shooting signs. But it is still better signs than people. Merry Christmas.

I am from Montana. Come down and debate with the locals. Don't come unarmed. Now that I'm off Banination for my poo-poo mouth: My favorite post! Come armed to the debate about gun control because the people with the guns will kill you with their guns! Awesome! I guess the people from Montana are "psycho-puke-fuckheaded retard". I'll let the ranchers and farmers who hunt with guns and ammunition locked in safes know how you feel. They don'e want psycho-puke-fuckheaded retards to change the way they use guns responsibly.

Solution is to give volunteer fire fighters guns along with teachers at all levels, ushers at all movie theaters, and post armed guards at all mall parking lots. Irony is the same people that advocate these approaches fight any higher taxes.

Or have gone through a gun ownership class and been evaluated for mental illness and have had a background check and are under 24/7 surveillance to make sure they can't circumvent the system. It is a very difficult situation. And do you think a Congress who can't jump across a 3 foot moat to solve the fiscal cliff issue is going to do shit about this anyway? We are doing as much spraying as they are doing about anything. At least we are nearly up to the number of pages as the flu thread. A little gift in jon's stocking for Christmas.

Fake Ivan, Australia is not the US. I wonder how many gang members and drug dealers and mentally ill per capita they have versus the US. I agree 100% on the bunker crowd. A SWAT team could always take them out. The issue is that they are waiting for a big problem and not trying to create one. The NRA is tricky. People want to have guns but they have to have the right guns for the right reasons. Plenty of sweat was spent on their response. On mass shootings: I will stick with the fact that most states have background checks but you can get lots on the black market or if a friend or family member provides. I will agree your self defense issue is valid. Most of the time the perp (who got their guns and knowledge somewhere) take it away from you and shoot you instead. That is why you have to go through firearms learning or bad shit can happen. But don't penalize people that have done that. About the police: the media emphasizes a cop with a gun versus aimless machine gun bearers. The reality is that cops rarely use their guns. We are talking about random events of violence and try as we might we can't control them. Put cops in schools. Fine. What about shopping malls, train stations, streets, hiking trails, etc. You can implement any laws you want but there is always a way around any law to create mayhem. Mental illness, anti-terrorism and education and some gun control but not too much. Merry Christmas, and I hope good night to this thread.

I'm sorry about your cousins' situation but most killers are not members of the NRA. The NRA espouses responsible gun use as does the 2nd amendment. People that break the law do not follow either edict. I am pretty sure weapons will be around regardless of any law. People are the problem and not the weapons. Keep a close watch on your cousins. And arming teachers is NOT the solution unless you want to include the rest of the known occupants of our planet. Some are responsible, some are not, some are teachers, and some are not, some are your neighbors and some are not, some are trained and some are not. But punishing the almost everyone because of the small seems over the top. I swore I wasn't going to keep going on this thread but apparently it isn't working. So for the hell of it I'll keep it rolling. You can screen or background check everybody, but you also have to have judgment about who you know. Restrictions at schools are great but how about EVERY OTHER FUCKING PLACE ON EARTH. Let's just ring up Dahmer, Manson, Rader, Ridgway, and Gacy and ask them if availabilty of a weapon was a problem. It is kind of like restricting the flow of drugs from Mexico. We try our best but our reach is less than our aim. Be careful out there.

Broken foot, ligament damage. Recovery time?
matt_warfield replied to turn_one's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
It was tib/fib, no heel so a bit different. A lot of climbers have gone through injuries that take recovery time. Be patient, which is not always the best suit of climbers, but it will pay dividends versus fast return exacerbating the injury and prolonging recovery. And your itinerary will make everybody on this PNW site envious. Take pictures and post a TR. I hope it involves speedos and bikinis, sharks and tropical fish, surfboards and bodyboards and such other than treading on your heel before healing. Again pics would be great. -
Is that directed at me? I believe I was calling for perspective the other day when you were looking to revive Nancy Lanza just so you could tell her what a lousy parent she was. I don't think I've lost perspective on the situation since then but if you think I have please explain your comment. And no, I don't think my cousins want peace on earth. They're more interested in killin' shit. But if you're actually from Mantana then you all ready know this. Not directed at you, just the news. Shit happens all over the world. But if you are worried about mental health or drugs or alcohol of anyone in the house why have any unsecured weapons in the house. It's really easy to secure them. And rural areas of MT are very responsible with firearms and just want to keep them for the right purposes. And I am from Montana and am in Montana and know a huge bunch of Montanans.

Broken foot, ligament damage. Recovery time?
matt_warfield replied to turn_one's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
I did better than that, breaking both major bones just above the ankle. I have Frankenstein scars from the surgery and have a titanium plate on one side and screws on the other side. What I expeienced is that after 3 months on crutches and 3 months of limping, the ankle is suprisingly strong but has lost some flexibility. Your situation should be lesser. Just beware that foot/ankle joint injuries are unique and don't jump the gun. Stay away from putting too much weight on it. Stick with the water and not chasing women around on the beach. Where are you going? Hawaii, Costa Rica? Please share. Inquiring minds want to know. -
Raid in Kenyan village kills 28 just recently. Syria death toll: 50,000 Rwanda deaths by genocide death toll: at least 500,000. It's all terrible but let's just keep things in perspective, remember there is an entire world out there, and we all wish for peace on earth. Good luck.

[TR] Mt. Shuksan - Fisher Chimneys 9/16/12 & 9/28/12 9/16/2012
matt_warfield replied to johnnygraec's topic in North Cascades
Great TR. You've got a good start on finding out what Cascade climbing is about. One of the local jokes is Fred Beckey saying in his guidebooks "take the obvious gully". -
You do understand I am responding to boner's irrational justification of the "need" for automatic weapons, right? I plead guilty to being gullible from time to time.

i'm shocked n' horrified you can't distinguish the geniune-deal from that ersatz-bastard - when, forsooth, has tvash ever been known to expostulate w/ a kenning!?! you seem to be confusing the fuck-taxes war w/ the war of northern aggression, but, uh...uh...i'm not really sure what you were saying there? i'd return you to the 1791 argument - how many Famous Founders would be kewl w/ the status quo pro bellum? Good to have you back. I was confused for a bit but I could detect a little left winging there. I have had a couple beers, but the point I was trying to make is that shit happens that transcends presidents, congresses, and masters of the universe from 1791 to 2012. While some sit on their arses being profound, bad things are happening behind the scenes.

Okay, fake ivan, I agree but let's also recall some history. Rev War had quite a bit of lining up, marching forward with muskets and cannons and blasting the shit out of each other in a war of attrition. The Civil War had a bunch of ambush, snipery, and death due to bleeding or infection. And then there is Normandy in WW2, going onshore knowing the sniping will begin immediately. But I will guarantee that the operators of fighter jets, bombers, and tanks are no homeboys in the modern era. And Feck has a very good point. Add doomsdayers to people who accumulate weapons and ammo and may be slightly or greatly unhinged as well.

Don't tell anyone (the internet is secure right?)but I have experience with the Bradley and the M1 Abrams. While the Bradley is fierce, the Abrams is absolutely lethal. Both are terribly expensive and if Ron Paul was President, unneeded. Sorry for more thread drift. Just trying to keep this site headed toward being a mini mini mini Facebook with participation. Well, if I could afford an M1 and need a weapon to protect me from my gov't, then why can't I own one? We should have militias that can buy M1's - for protection against our gov't, no? Prolly no law against it but expect government interference through the military contractor alliance. If you do pull it off expect men with good haircuts and black jackets to knock on your day sometime to wish you well.

cheech n' chong? yeah, cheech n' chong with assault rifles. Times have changed unfortunately.

We seem to have an ample supply of BC Bud, cocaine, and heroin. Does anyone think illegal arms are going to be contained? And who is going to get them?
-
While I'd prefer to do more, this seems like a reasonable start - in addition to required background checks/waiting periods/registrations for gun shows and a tighter leash on sellers at shows. To buy immediately at shows you have to have a concealed weapons permit which requires a background check. To buy otherwise takes a waiting period which also involves a background check. I know that these gun shows fuel the fire but WA has barriers in place. It is the black market or friends and family that qualify where mayhem can start. It is a tough problem to solve.
-
if i have sprayed further than those before me, it is only because i have stood on the shoulders of imbeciles And for your info, I know that 90% of people do not understand gun ownership and are not responsible. Just none in Montana.

I hadn't read your admission but nobody on this site or anywhere else can impersonate ivan. He is absolutely a true original.
