You got hit by a "coffee table" size rock and just took some minor damage!??! I call bullshit.

Maybe we will soon be able to hire Scot'teryx to guide us up Rainer??

Would anybody be kind enough to post a picture showing this line in context of the rest of the mountain? thanks, -josh

The news media as a whole is pretty evenly biased, IMHO. Some swing right, some swing left. Those that thing it swings heavily enough to either side to actually affect anything are pretty misinformed, IMHO.

Aspergers huh? That is interesting. I know a lot about it owing to the fact that I have somebody close to me in my life that has it. If he, indeed, is truthfully afflicted then the thing you guys all certainly think is a bullshit excuse may well be more valid than you think. In any event, the guy should definitely be spending some time in jail but i think the part about the judge uping the punishment for him "influencing consumers" or whatever is pretty suspect. I could see that being slapped down by an appeals court. The whole thing is sad tho. These people just end up looking even stupider than somebody who is dumb enough to buy a hummer2.

I think his point may have been that it seems pretty obvious (at least to me) that grading ski runs to flatten them out hurts plants and that higher altitude terrain suffers worse.

Wait...a**US** district court!? Not some shitty state or county court? What the fuck. Honestly, this is what our tax dollars are going towards? You realize what just a fucking hour of this court's time costs!? Sweet Jeebus...

Yeah, i know that. I need to get down the SW. The summit county area is pretty overrated. It just happens to be near where everybody lives. I guess the southern CO rockies have had one of the best years in quite a while. Too bad it's such a drive for me. -josh

The cascades now have more snow than the rockies do at least around the summit county area.

Wow, that's awesome man. Someone will have to copy the annotations some day if we can get a super super clear day photo at very high res. Klenke, I'm sure you've done put I haev a pretty high res photo of the olympics from the 140th street overpass in Bellevue with the seattle skyline in the foreground. Let me know if you have any interest in it. -josh

I know this is a long shot, but I think there are some Colorado residents on here and I have no idea where to look for partners here. If anybody in the Denver/Boulder area is interest...I am thinking I might do a tour in the Bierstadt/Evans aera tomorrow. -josh

No...I was up in BC a few weeks ago and plenty of them do that too. BC and WA drivers are pretty much identical in my expierence. As are OR drivers...

I think the camera on a cell phone would be perfect!

My buddy had them withOUT the thermo liner and he frequently complained of them being cold.

He said conservative U.S. dudes, so that is what I assume. I would agree with dru's point hwoever...if they just posted it because it was banned then that is pretty pointless.

Unless there is some agreement, nobody "violated" anything. U.S. citizens don't have to respect a Canadian ban on something.

The old mining stuff is pretty neat, i'll admit, it tends to start looking pretty gross after a while. It seems that kind of stuff can be better preserved through pictures and the like. It's gonna be destroyed by nature pretty quickly anyway. As far as Monte Cristo, what is the deal with the hotels and houses at the townsite. Were they ripped down? I can't imagine anything, even a wood building, could decay that quick.

Good link, thanks. This is pretty wild... "In the more distant future, perhaps a generation or more, lies the potential to develop productive capacity from natural gas hydrates. Located in marine sediments and the Arctic, these ice-like structures store immense quantities of methane. Although the size of these potential resources is not well measured, mean estimates from the U.S. Geological Survey indicate that the United States alone may possess 200 quadrillion cubic feet of natural gas in the form of hydrates. To put this figure in perspective, the world's proved reserves of natural gas are on the order of 6 quadrillion cubic feet. "

I can't say enough how much an ultralight umbrella kicks ass. As people have mentioned, staying dry in rain is really difficult. I find goretex quite good during snow, even moderately wet snow, but I don't find much at all helps rain. For approachs or just backpacking where I might find rain I carry an umbrela. I found some ultralight thing (which really is ultra light) which compacts to a very small size at wallgreens and use that. I remain drier than ever and I can even lay it over my head to use during break stops and the like. Honestly, I can't express how much I have benifited from going the umbrella route. The one thing I have failed to solve is walking through wet brush. I think it's pretty much impossible at that point unless you want to wear nonbreathable fabrics and figure out some really ingenious way to vent them.

	HAHAH, that sticker is awesome.

Yeah, I've got 1 pound WM bag and it kicks ass. It's much warmer than the 40 degrees they claim. If you are looking specifically for synthetic due to it's weather "resistence" then I'm not sure what good a paper thin ineffective bag is going to do, even if it does hold up to the wet a bit better than down.
