  1. I think gym climbing is the same as working out at a gym and running on a treadmill. It is excercise but isn't the real thing.
  2. Yup, everybody who dosn't use their real name == coward. Actually, there are plenty of people who use aliases but we know who they are. I'm curious, why do people fel intent on hiding their identity? It is supposed to be a "community" board after all.
  3. It sounds like you have contracted an STD. Report once to your nearest disinfection clinic.
  4. Peter Puget = Coward? If not, why not use your real name?
  5. Hey egail, thanks for the tip. I checked out climbingboulder but must have missed that comment.
  6. Anybody climbed the alleged ice flows in the Lincoln Amplitheater in the Sawatch Range of CO? Apparently they tend to form rather early and have to be climbed early due to eventual snow accumulation. Any info would be !
  7. Ha! Well said Bungle. The yuppiazation is a fact of life and I'd rather concentrate on the good things it brings. Boulder is also fairly unique for the fact that it houses a major university unlike the other places mentioned. Also, for those who haven't been here, somebody should probably mention that Boulder is *not* a "mountain town" the likes of Whistler, Jackson, etc... It is right on the edge of the mountains, but you definitely don't feel like you are in the mountains. Bungle, what are some good places to start exploring the Mummy Range? I have heard they are cool but I have never been in there. How is winter access?
  8. Is the North Fork Sauk approach the one that brings up over Red (or is it White?) Pass? If so, that is a really beautiful way to go.
  9. No, Carl is Lowell's younger brother. Gordy is their eldest brother.
  10. The Alaska Way Viaduct is a time bomb just waiting to kill people. God willing when it DOES collapse (not if...when) it will happen in the middle of the night and not rush hour. When it does kill people, it could arguably be a case of criminal neglect. I think the building codes in Burma are better than the ones that thing are built to.
  11. The thread on Carl's untimely passing made me think of an idea. Out of respect I have opened this seperate thread. What do people think of a possible "memorial" feature on cc.com? I imagine more than just a sticky thread but a seperate section where we can post short memorials for those we have climbed with that are no longer with us. I don't imagine it would be any major feature but possibly just tucked away somewhere to honor those we have lost. Anybody have thoughts on this, positive or negative?
  12. What a tragedy. We all know it is a risk we take but it hit hards when somebody so close - be it a personal friend or a member of our community - passes. I find it almost surreal as I can imagine many do. I never had the chance to partner up with Carl, and from Jason's words it sounds like I missed out. RIP Carl.
  13. JayB pretty much nailed it...you get very good days for sure, and there are some great great places to ski, and the snow can be amazing but I'd rather have consistent (normally), if heavier, snow, a much larger base, and the steeper terrain of the PNW.
  14. Yeah, as much as the Coloradians make me laugh with their "our skiing is the best!!" stuff, it doesn't change the fact that Oregon's skiing isn't very good. There are some cool areas here that aren't the mega resorts. I find a-basin pretty fun. Compare to, say, Whistler, however, everything here is child's play.
  15. God, it sounds awfully likely to be him. Obviously Lowell would know but I can't imagine he is anywhere the computer if the news is of the bad kind.
  16. Oh no..... I hope not...does anybody have an english link yet, or at least a rough translation?
  17. 99% of the people in this country who complain about "liberals" don't really have a fucking clue what the actual word liberalism means.
  18. Maybe I am not a good liberal wanna-be-hippie but I hate it when people always complain about progress in former towns like Boulder. Progress is a part of life. Yeah, it's a wealthier community and I'm real sorry dirty hippies can't afford it any more (sarcasm) but it is a damn fun place and it's pretty. Not to menion it has something now we call an "economy". I would love to see B-ham become the next boulder. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
  19. Yes, travel east of the Boulder city limits is stongly discouraged. Everything to the East (yes, this includes Denver) sucks until you get a good ways further across the country.
  20. HAHAH...the perception about Boulder is probably like 30 years out of date. All I know, is this place seems pretty damn yuppie to me. True hippies are rare enough that it is still fun to talk shit about or to them when they are spotted. If you have the spare time you might want to try to get tix to the CU-Kansas game if you like college football. It's a night game and those are always fun. If you are single check out the Pearl Street bars. They are always good hunny-sighting locations. As for currency, the US dollar is generally used at business establishments but a baggie of the chron' always makes for a good hard currency.

    Just Desserts

Now *THAT* move was about the dirtiest political sham in quite a while. Any campaign finance illegalities are of little consequence compared to the power grab the Republicans made in that case.
  22. So hurricane Wilma is now a category 5, with the lowest barometric pressure of any hurricane ever recorded. I wonder how bad this one will be when it hits? I wonder if the Floridians will be smart enough to learn from the people who tried to "ride out" previous hurricanes, such as Katrina. I wonder if this finally open people's eyes up to the fact that global warming is a real issue?

    iPod Nano

I got one of the nanos and the size and looks are awesome. If you are going for style points, it kicks ass, but otherwise it is overpriced compared to competing non-apple MP3 players. For thsoe that didn't see, the new version of the full size iPods is coming out in a couple of weeks. They will be thinner then their old counterparts and still available in 30gb and 60gb. The LCD has also been increased to a reasonable size.
  24. It's too bad that road ate shit so hard...it is a great access point to lots of neat backcountry.
