  1. I spent a night at upper lyman lake about 100 feet away from the the lyman glacier where it calves into the lake. All fuckin night it sounded like I was sleeping somewhere in bosnia. I swear every 5 minutes something broke off. The next day (which was warm) I didn't see a single thing fall.
  2. We did a report in school about the emergence of the caspian see nations (former USSR states) and their possibility for huge oil reserves. While I would certainly like to see us off oil ASAP, I think it would be great if, in the mean time, we could greatly reduce our dependence on the middle east. It would be truly awesome if we could move all our partnerships to the former USSR states, which would not only get their economies rolling but let us get out of the middle east.
  3. I was never really a fan of that show, but I have to say if I was I would be quite disappointed in that finale. Nothing interesting at all...just a typical end where they all end up happy together. The best show on TV is clearly "The West Wing" If it weren't for that I think I'd cancel my cable and save the money.

    McCain

Good for him. McCain rules. Rumsfield should be canned. I have to disagree with you about Colin tho. I really respected the guy until I've seen him get walked all over by Bush and Cheney for the past 3 years. He's principled but I think he needs to stand up and say what we all know he thinks; that this administration sucks. It's obviously the reason he has quietly told them he won't be returning for another flogging.
  5. As much as it would hurt folks, myself included, I would love to see $5/gallon gas. As Alasdair said, it would seriously hurt the SUV market and actually get people thinking about a more intelligent way to move people around cities. The really lame thing is gas would cost this much more if it wasn't for heavy government subsidies for the oil comapnies to promote "research and development"
  6. You could definitely go in via buck creek pass via trinity, but it's still a lot longer than the suiattle river trail. What is supposed to be wrong with it? Is it messed up enough that travel on it would be unreasonable?
  7. The average surface temperatures have been rising *faster* than any point in history...that is the prevailing scientific theory at least. Why is it so hard for you to accept the fact that the majority of scientific thinking points to some amount of human influence? Would you be a pinko liberal communist if you believed this?
  8. The white chuck river road is ripped up, but the suittale river road is fine as far as I've heard. I'm sure beck will have fun bragging about his secret route over ______ pass, but I can tell you that it's not that far. 10 miles on the basically flat suiattle river trail, then whatever it is up gamma creek or gamma ridge.
  9. I, too, have been really happy with backcountrygear.com. I've only ever ordered over the internet from them, but it was fast and easy and they were very helpful when I had a small sizing problem.
  10. Yo. I'm looking to get a tarp shelter type thingy for 2 people. I know the betamid and integral designs silshelter are both designed for 2. Im also considering a megamid for it's extra space and ability to hold 3 or 4 if needbe. I'd like to hear opinions from megamid/megalight owners. Are they useable in cruddy weather? Can they be used in winter weather that isn't super stormy? How is setup, stability, and all that? thanks, -josh
  11. That sounds like fun. I'll volunteer to be somebody's kid if we get to go! I'll sit in the back seat of the station wagon. (I just wanted to use that thing, whatever it is)
  12. stinky, don't be silly, how are cheney's chronies going to profit if halliburton doesn't get the contract to supply it's own overpaid truck drivers?
  13. You could reach the white river road already, but you still can't get up the white river road to the campground/trailhead.
  14. May 6th@?@? Holy fucking global warming...
  15. Should I be concerned this person will try to hurt me should I run across him in the mountains? Sounds a little nuts, to say the least.
  16. I'd to imagine so. The stuarts are probably the easiest of the "big" mountains to access in the winter. I'm sure the area between colchuck lake and stuart lake sees the most concentrated number of climbers in a given winter.
  17. LOL. Don't worry, I've been busy going up the cascade river road once a week for the past 2 months to worry about the Stuart range That coulior looks like a pretty ski tho.
  18. : That's a keeper, Josh. Fairweather, the king of partial quotes. Your boy's business dealings are fucking corrupt.
  19. First, it's his wife's fortune. Second, I would rather see him be rich on account of sucessful company fortune rather than a fortune built on family connections, shady kickbacks and just general fuck-the-public oil money.
  20. Lowell, in general was the terrain such that skis remained on for the majority of the traverse? It looks like a neat area with some cool peaks along the way.
  21. Go to the gallery and look at my pictures. Open the pic and click on it to show the huge one.
  22. With all the problems in Iraq and the world today, do you know what we *really* need to make this country a better, stronger, place? A constitutional amendment against gay marriage! Clearly this is the solution for all the world's problems!!
  23. Yup, it's taken from Sourdough. Great viewpoint. Tod, check out the full res version of the picture. You actually can see the flatness of Azure lake in that one.
  24. I have no clue about this guy, but I did find this below excerpt. The guy is in prison for other shit, but apparently some sick shit was going down. "The scandal originated with the collapse of the minority-oriented Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha, directed by Lawrence E. King, Jr., a nationally influential black Republican who sang the national anthem at both the 1984 and 1988 Republican conventions. King became the subject of the Nebraska Senate's investigation conducted by the specially created ``Franklin Committee'' to probe charges of embezzlement. In November 1988, King's offices were raided by the FBI and $40 million was discovered missing. Within weeks, the Nebraska Senate, which initially opened the inquiry to find out where the money had gone, instead found itself questioning young adults and teenagers who said that they had been child prostitutes. Social workers and state child-care administrators accused King of running a child prostitution ring. The charges grew with the former police chief of Omaha, the publisher of the state's largest daily newspaper, and several other political associates of King, finding themselves accused of patronizing the child prostitution ring. King is now serving a 15-year federal prison sentence for defrauding the Omaha-based credit union. But the magazines Avvenimenti of Italy and Pronto of Spain, among others, have charged that King's crimes were more serious: that he ran a national child prostitution ring that serviced the political and business elite of both Republican and Democratic parties. Child victims of King's operations charged him with participation in at least one satanic ritual murder of a child several years ago. The Washington Post, New York Times, Village Voice and National Law Journal covered the full range of accusations after the story broke in November of 1988. King's money machinations were also linked to the Iran-Contra affair, and some say that King provided the CIA with information garnered from his alleged activities as a ``pimp'' for the high and mighty. "
  25. This one is particuarlly revealing..."Republican anti-gay activist Earl "Butch" Kimmerling confessed to molesting an 8-year old girl after he attempted to stop a gay couple from adopting her." One has to question why the majority of the republican party is so fucking obsessed with what gay people are doing. For a party who's aim is supposed to be keeping government out of our lives, they sure seem to like to meddle in others people's business. Also, has anybody else noticed how much repubs like to drag out Colin Powell's (who along with Condasleazy Rice function as Bushie's token blacks) name to show the diversity in the cabinent, but don't like to point out the fact that Colin has already stated he won't be returning to work for Bush again?
