    War

yes, it does. most of the meatheads are now gone!
  3. but isn't one of the issues whether applications traditionnally powered with oil could also work with electric energy. such as: Experimental Hybrid Cars Get Up to 250 Mpg otherwise, i think a reasonable argument can be made for not destroying the look of some landscapes with wind turbines. or at least, i am not sure there is a ready answer for all cases.
  4. it is usually worthwhile to drive back early monday a.m., for at least a couple of reasons (no traffic being one of them).
  5. seems like a reasonnable request

    Question?

err ... we own nato and fire 10^6 times more ammo than anyone else , maybe? you mean they didn't find anything wrong years after the fact? fancy that! anyhow isn't the problem with penetrator losing significant mass at impact (i.e. lost mass that is vaporized) yeah right ... exposing millions of people to so-called depleted uranium should be dismissed right out of hand despite overwhelming epidemiological evidence to the contrary ...
  8. allright, lots of funny answers! doesn't something have to be amusing to amount to amusement? as for chestbeating, i have always been of the school of thought that bragging about not signing registers was much cooler didn't there use to be an argument about registers between land agencies and large outdoor clubs?
  9. i like the idea of preserving old summit registers for the historical perspective they offer on the evolution of our sports in the Cascades. But, what is the purpose of summit registers nowadays?
  10. a little added info that JayB apparently didn't think you should know (where is the link? heh?): the speaker of the diatribe in question is british born and raised (http://www.examiner.ie/pport/web/ireland/Full_Story/did-sg-2ANzcSPWiIsglO-LCk0lQvU.asp). in this context, is the rhetoric all that surprising? of course not. so why did JayB leave out the link to the original story?
  11. "about time!"
  12. save as a postscript and convert to pdf with adobe distiller?
  13. though i do like to fry'em in the microwave vaporized isn't good. now, if you could hang a trophy on the wall ...
  14. the top of ~200' of the spire has some deleted rock but the rest is stellar. do a search for further info on the climb.
  15. in real cost? much less than burning fossil fuels i tried to introduce my kids to it a long time ago but it always seemed to require a police station every city block to do well (or nearly)
  16. that somewhat similar observations be made by people with otherwise very dissimilar aspirations tells you what?

the horrors of ww2 that are cited repeatedly to justify owning the arsenal to commit furhter atrocities didn't emerge out of a vaccuum (and then, you pretend to be concerned about context, lol). by the time the ultranationalists had been whipped into a frenzy by demagogues the world over, of course, it was freaking too late. these conflicts have little to do with the nature of the enemy or the way we are hardwired, but everything to do with competition over power, resources, etc ... as long as nincompoops like you keep invoking the demon in the enemy to justify our own demons, we are in a world of trouble. so there!
  18. "development of a 500-MW solar project 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles using innovative Stirling dish technology. The agreement includes an option to expand the project to 850 MW. Initially, Stirling would build a one-MW test facility using 40 of the company's 37-foot-diameter dish assemblies. Subsequently, a 20,000-dish array would be constructed near Victorville, Calif., during a four-year period." "the Stirling project would provide enough clean power to serve 278,000 homes for an entire year," "The Stirling dish technology converts thermal energy to electricity by using a mirror array to focus the sun's rays on the receiver end of a Stirling engine. The internal side of the receiver then heats hydrogen gas which expands. The pressure created by the expanding gas drives a piston, crank shaft, and drive shaft assembly much like those found in internal combustion engines but without igniting the gas. The drive shaft turns a small electricity generator. The entire energy conversion process takes place within a canister the size of an oil barrel. The process requires no water and the engine is emission-free." http://www.renewableenergyaccess.com/rea/news/story?id=35263

Nagasaki Mayor Iccho Itoh said at the ceremony, "The United States has 10,000 nuclear weapons, has conducted sub-critical nuclear tests and on top of that is pursuing the development of miniature nuclear weapons. Do the American people really think the policies of their country are going to bring about peace? We know that most of you are actually really seeking the abolition of nuclear weapons. We should all unite to bring peace to the world." Mayor Itoh also addressed citizens of the United States. He said "We understand your anger and anxiety over the memories of the horror of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Yet, is your security enhanced by your government’s policies of maintaining 10,000 nuclear weapons?" http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/09/143207
  20. it's warren buffett, the famous investor. he has lots of time to go climbing. if you meet him, ask him for stock tips.
  21. see what i mean: a prime specimen of homo climbing bummus begs for food, rides, sex, belays but not for money.
  22. don't be a flake olyclimber: climbing bums don't ask for money in the street like regular bums do.
  23. why do people think climbers are flaky? my partners aren't flaky or they won't be my partners for long. is it that flaky folks hang with one another?
