I thought Dru's concealed Goatse link was really funny, but then I realized that I had the moderate filtering on for Google, which meant all I saw was the various funny parodies rather than the original image. You know, stuff like this: Can't say I'd recommend that link with your filtering turned off, unless you're prepared.

I haven't been there, but there are a few routes in Green's old Idaho Rock guide, including the cover photo. I think the guide is long out of print, but I could scan the pages if you want - I doubt he's worried about copyright at this point in time.

I get the impression that there is plenty, but it's pretty closely held information. Private property is often an issue. Your best bet is to cultivate some friends out there, I wouldn't expect too much revelation on a public forum.

UPDATE: 4/19/06 Things look alright for tonight, though notably Hercules is too wet, and there is some dampness on top for a few routes. Any of you regulars have a cordless drill? Mine's down for a battery rebuild, and I have some anchor work I'd like to do.

Neal decided to try and make a living out of climbing. This calls for a lot of shameless self promotion. It's the same deal for anyone who tries to make a living as an artist. Talent is one thing, but promotion is the real key to success. He's ambitious, big deal. Clearly, climbers aren't his market, nor who the newscaster was aiming for. Neal's pushing the motivational speaker thing. It must be a common pursuit for Seven Summiteers, last I looked it seemed like that was Lummox's intended Annabelle Bond's current gig too. So yeah, the hype and handwaving is amusing, but it's a solid (if not extreme) achievement. I'm sure I'd post a TR here so ya'll could tell me how bitchen I was.

Crackers I'd be curious to hear more about Turkey, I have some good friends who go over there frequently. Maybe some pics and a TR over in the new International forum? I've found the reports from Africa pretty fascinating, and I'd like to hear more from areas one doesn't think of as having climbers. Ever think about some way to get used gear from this land of plenty over to folks who need it there? I think there are plenty of folks with some nuts or old cams they'd be glad to donate if there was some way to know that it would really make its way into the hands of needy climbers over there.

That's actually a terrible business plan. If you can't make enough to pay employees, along with their overhead expenses, taxes, and workers comp, you can't really make it as a business or justify the substantial investment a viable gym requires. It's great to start a cool business, but being in business really is about making a profit, not providing a social service.
