    Best Newbie Climbs

Urlich's Coulior on Stuart for the very adventurous newbie Rope, small rack). West Ridge of Prussick (rope, small rack). R&D route on Icicle buttress. Index-Persis traverse (rope, snow tools). Mt Barring West Ridge (ice ax, crampons). Becky route on Liberty Bell (rope, medium rack).
  2. The Liberty Ridge trip is on for June 11-13. Minx and I and whoever (max of 2, 4 total) else can get out with us beforehand so we aren't strangers on this more serious route.
  3. I don't mind the concept of the global economy creating competing markets. What gets me is my tax dollars are paying for politicians to spend their time on legislation that will make it easier for our jobs to be outsourced. Jay Inslee, GW, on and on. Our government has been bought.
  4. What time of year and what time of day did you see BIG stuff falling in the Sickle? Thanks for the info!
  5. I am going May 28-30 with GregW, BillyGoat and Tyler151 up the South Tahoma route. I would also do a route June 11-13 (Liberty Ridge?). I will be on Camano Island June 25-27.
  6. Tyler151 just committed to the May date. That makes 4 in our party. I would rather not have more than that on a rope. I guess we could split into two ropes if there are a couple more interested in ST but any more than that would kind of defeat the purpose of getting away from the crowded routes.
  7. I haven't been there but the people I know who have, say that you definately want experienced climbers to be in the majority. It is a very long way in and it is a long way to travel on glaciers. If you crater in a crevasse in a storm, in the evening, what are your chances of being helped?
  8. If I were taking a newbie up the S Tahoma, it would only be if they were in great shape and there were a couple other experienced climbers along who I had climbed with. Such is the case this coming spring with the thread Chuck cited.
  9. Right. Part of the reason I want to do the S Tahoma is to get away from the crowds. If we end up with a dozen climbers, I will be trying to talk people into breaking into separate groups and doing other routes. We can meet at the summit and put up a cloud. There are at least a couple other experienced Rainier climbers in the list so this shouldn't be a problem.
  10. C. A steep hill is not my damn fault. A rough jam was not a personal attack. I did not train the mosquitoes. My date shoes are size 6. If they don't fit, you can't come. I have my reasons.
  11. Skied Silver Mt. Sunny but the chairs broke down and the idiot driving the cat didn't see why I would have a problem letting him take my six year old to the top by herself and leave her there alone. Have the employees up there are missing most of their teeth. Cheese, they need a dental program for public relations if nothin else.
  12. I often go out on climbs intending to bivy. I like practicing wall techniques, staying in shape, and sleeping in strange places. With all due respect to others who have posted here, I would not choose to car camp or hang out in a bar if Liberty crack were under my feet.
  13. I am now planning to go May 28-30 and June 11-13. The South Tahoma Glacier trip will be the May trip. So far GregW and BillyGoat have committed to that date. Rick_Sharpless, Tyler151,RobBob, Ketch, Plinko, JohnT, Minx, and hillweasel have all expressed interest. That's 11. That would make 3 groups. But like I said, only a few of us will really show up at the trailhead.
  14. Greg's not that big. But rest, well............
  15. OK let's settle on a date and route difficulty level. Dates I like are the May 28-30 or June 11-13. With realative newbies on board, an easier route seems best. I like the S.Tahoma rt. But it does require that we are in a bit better shape. Other routes are open to consideration but I would prefer to stay off the really heavily traveled ones. Suggestions? Anyone can throw in a hat. Just be in good shape please.
  16. Pub Club at the summit. I'm still pushing for the South Tahoma Glacier Route. We are climbers aren't we? It is just as easy as the DC or Emmons route but is 12 miles in and so makes a carry-over seem like a good idea. If we get too many people, we will want to split up into smaller groups and do different routes trying to time our arrival at the summit for a CC.COM pub club. We could even log in and spray. But I am flexible.
  17. Hmmm. I proposed to my first wife on that summit. That was enough warmin up for me. But as long you don't have any intentions of proposing, I'll go up there again. The N and W sides looked interesting.
  18. The S Tahoma route is easy except for where it is hard. Then it get easy again.
  19. Yes. But you can't bring your 44 or your AK-47.
  20. The weekends I could do this are May 28-30, June 11-13, and June 25-27. If there are too many people, we just split into two or three of four groups and do separate routes and meet at the summit. Realistically, only 4 or 5 will show up at the trailhead.
  21. Remember, you are representing CC.COM internationally. Drink till you puke!
  22. I like South Tahoma glacier but it is open.
  23. Whiny partner.
  24. Because bolts are permanent and the climate is always changing so why not eliminate both pollutants by driving the offending species into extinction at a higher than natural rate. Did you know that 75,000 years ago there was a massive volcanoe eruption in what is now Yellowstone park? The next mass killing will be by SUV. Only the strong will survive. Burly Russian women and wirey bushmen from south Africa.
  25. Maybe we should dress up like our least favorite avatars and take pictures of each other shitting in crevasses.
