  2. Ya. It's the angle of the pick entering the ice from someone swinging the tool which is important. For me with curved tools, that means the pinky guard is about an inch from vertical ice, with a center of rotation a little below the wrist.
  3. To a candidate from the same Democratic party who lost to GW Bush *twice*? With W, the bar was about as low as it goes.

  5. Considering one of a teacher's responsibilities is to evaluate their student's performances in a fair manner, suggesting that teacher's can't figure out how to evaluate themselves doesn't ring true. I have no interest in ragging on teachers for sport. I believe the best use of tax dollars is to have a strong educational system for all. I went through public school in the small town south (during integration) and had the usual mixed bag of motivated and not so teachers. But I'm not convinced that throwing additional money at teacher's salaries will improve education.
  6. But yet you highlighted this. Your modesty is modest. I have no modesty around the professional/financial success I have worked hard for my entire adult life. I've fought hard on many fronts and I am proud of what I've attained. So take your expectations of "modesty" and shove them up your ass.
  7. From this angle, the bolting looks reasonable.

  9. What does the union do to evaluate the quality of teaching in the classroom and remediate or eliminate those who are not able to provide for the 'welfare of their students'?

Have you read Taleb's Fooled by Randomness and The Black Swan? Reading can be challenging as he is a bit of a blowhard, but the concepts are interesting to consider.

    A Farewell to ARM's

18 years after their asset bubble burst, Japan is still suffering because of their unwillingness to deal with their portfolio of bad loans. The advantage, of course, is that Treasury bond rates are so low that we may be mortgaging our future, but we are doing it cheaply.

  16. Hey, you gotta keep housing prices rising at 15% per year and make them more affordable.
  17. Will these do?
  18. What can be more important to an expedition than a means by which it can be tracked and able to notify people in the event of an emergency? SPOT Inc., has provided the team with the world's first satellite messenger that uses GPS to determine a location in the SPOT network to transmit that information to friends, family and an evergency service center. We'll try to get it set up soon, the work with it while training. Ultimately, we will link it to a Google Map so that our progress from Vancouver to Anchorage and beyond can be watched.
