Best church sign I saw in Renton was "Karaoke here every Sunday at 9:00"

Whenever there is a serious accident post's like these usually appear, someone posts a theory or disagrees with one position and someone else (usually who is close to those involved) gets upset with them for second guessing or opening old wounds. I think the debate is healthy when done appropriately. I don't see anything wrong with Rescueman's post, he wasn't inflamatory and the accident is a year old. As a new climber I am interested in safety and staying safe myself. I read accident and SAR reports not with some morbid curiosity but to learn from the mistakes of others. Rich

Went in to the local Supercuts. Some unkempt woman starts to cough as she is cutting my hair. She asks me if I knew a person could get kicked out of a movie theater for coughing. Then proceeds to tell me that it happened to her the night before, she had to wait in the car while her husband and son finished watching the movie. Said it was cool cause they gave her a free voucher to come back when not coughing so she saw half a movie for free. Only coughed a few more times but I worked hard at breathing in only when she turned to get a comb or clippers. Rich

Lost a lot of skin on my leg glidading. It scabed up, was painful and got infected. Doctor said large wounds as such should be kept very moist, not allowed to scab. Might try soaking in a tub twice a day to prevent scabing. Rich

Don't know where I heard it but I thought Lance lost his US Post Office sponsorship. He is wearing the jersy in the commercial. Anyone know anything about it? Rich

I wonder how much less things would cost if there was zero theft. Hope you get your stuff back. Rich

Not right. Last year I redeemed for cash. Just checked the back of this years Rebate and that is what it says it will do, through December 2005. The only disclaimer is that at the store's discretion it may redeem in the form of a check. FrenchFree has already waited a few months, just one and a half to go. Guess he may need the money now, but I would want to be sure the dividend was still valid before handing over $410. Rich

I'm pretty sure that you can redeem for cash on July 1st. Just hold on to it for a little bit and you got it all. Rich

I was reading the link: http://www.nps.gov/mora/climb/Climb03.mht and noticed that the number of climbers on Rainier has been steadily declining since 2000. Made me do a double take as I had the perception that it was endangered by too many people. Why the decline? Is it the rise in park and climbing fees? Rich

I have a pair of Asolo AFS Guide boots for $75. Rich

Anybody know when the snoqualmie train tunnel opens?

Thanks for the info. I've got all the glacier equip, but zero rock. As for cheaper places than REI, I am aware, but don't want to wait till July to get cash. I normally use an 8mm rope in the alpine environment, but am concerned that I may need to move to a bigger (heavier) rope. Rich

I do alpine stuff but would like to gear up so that I could do some of these climbs that I have heard about that have 1 or 2 short rock pitches which may be 4th or low-5th class. What components would make up a small rack that would handle most of these situations? Rich

That little knob is a handle that turns. So once the screw is started you just hold the knob and crank it around, screwing it in without having to re-grip. Rich

I normally wear a size 12 and bought size 12. They fit great, never a blister. Don't know what else to say about sizing, but if you know what size you are going to buy, get them from Barrabes.com Rich

and the pitch is steep, I'm glad for the security of the rope. I've been at it for about 10 hours now, moving from one 6" self to another. Getting a bit chilly now but I can't wear any gloves and be able to work with the hardware. Thankfully it is getting too dark to see what I am doing and I can quit for the day. We should be able to finish the roof in one more day. Rich

Non-smoking bar sounds good! Make it non-alchohol and I'm almost there. How about that Jive Juice and Oxygen bar in Auburn? Rich

Though I rarely post, I do check in most every day to check things out. I think it's a good idea to ask for a little help. You guys are great for making this happen. Rich

quote: How aboput I call you from the sumit to let you know that I have stipped off my top and am running arround waving it. You can then post the information on cc.com and then the hellicopters will come in droves with news crews. Maybe I will get sponsered I was up there on Tuesday, there was a group of 10 women at the false summit. One of the women taking a pee mooned a helicopter flying by. They all thought it was such a great idea that when the heli came back around he got a 20 bun salute. Rich -
Glad you're back and safe. Thanks for posting the TR. Good food for thought on how light one should go. Rich

Permits for walkups are not all taken, they leave 40% free on a first come basis 24 hours before. Need to get there early. They open at 7:00. Last week we arrived at 6:00, got in line and got the very last reservation available. Others in line were just out of luck. Rich
