Did anyone need a mustache ride? Join the line, slowpoke. And make sure you brought all 10 of the essentials! Are prayer flags on the list? No, but kicks in the face might be! Edible holds at the Hong Kong Bun Scrambling Race. (Google it). This is better than anything Pope and Dwayner could ever invent, and it's real.

If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem. Please, be a part of the solution. Spray is here for entertainment but for about the last 6 months to year has been steadily less entertaining. If you are posting endless "what is the best band" threads or political diatribes you are not entertaining. The best way for you to become part of the solution would be for you to a) off yourself b) quit spraying. In conclusion, Fuck off.

Petzl ropes are just Cousin ropes with the "Petzl" brand name. Cousin ropes are also sold as Millet ropes. http://www.cousin-trestec.com/cords-ropesuk/climbing-ropes/cordes-montagne.php

Best ropes I have ever had were Edelrid and Mammut. I had an Edelrid in particular that lasted 9 years of heavy cragging use. Worst rope ever was a Maxim. One season and it was toast. Only rope I have ever owned that had the sheath separate from the core like a cheap shoelace.

Because you represent a better future, for all of us. I care because the crackpot ideas promulgated by this movement were an integral part of Thabo Mbeki's decision to reject simple anti-HIV interventions that would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives, for one thing. The related pseudoscientific hysteria that's driving the anti-vaccine movement serves as a barrier to the complete eradication of preventable diseases that have plagued humanity since time immemorial, and jeopardize the mass-vaccination efforts that lend protection to the people in society who are most vulnerable to the said diseases - the very young, the very old, the immunocompromised, etc. The sublime idiocy that undergirds the creationist movement represents a threat to sound scientific education - which is partly responsible for the genesis of these movements - but it's not a direct threat to anyone's health. Most people who are concerned about one are concerned about the other, but there are always exceptions. You, the embodiment of the better future that we should all strive for, should save your energy for things...like crusading against fluoridation. Mbeki was a lost cause anyways, that idoit thought, that after sleeping with a prostitute that was known to be HIV positive, that he couldn't contract the virus. This was because he washed himself after having sex with her. That wasn't Mbeki. It was Jacob Zuma.

Avalanches destroying all sorts of fun stuff

Hwy 3 and 5 are both closed past Hope due to slides and avalanches. Hwy 1 or 99 are only ways out of Lower Mainland to "rest of Canada" at the moment. Hwy 1 also closed Sicamous to Revelstoke, Revy to Golden and Golden to Yoho! Plus many small closures thru the Kootenays. If trying to escape WA at the moment best choice is Hwy 99 to Cache Cr via Whistler & Duffy Lake, then Hwy 5 to Valemount and on to Jasper. -
I have never heard the term jökulhlaup used for anything but glacial outburst floods eg. the Ape Lake jökulhlaup down the Noieck River. there is no glacier and indeed, very little evidence of water flow in the debris which appears to mix snow and mud. I agree with you though, a debris slide beginning under the snow and carrying the overlying snowpack with it with secondary slab failure propagating from that.

It looks like the crater in the slide scar is at least a couple meters deep into the ground in this shot: I have a hard time thinking even a climax slide avalanche excavates that deep? It's a pretty poor quality photo though.

You guys had a proud trip and a good adventure. A couple previous kayak-to-Wadd trips had better luck approaching from Bute inlet. Might want to think about that way for next time. You can see the monster slide that ripped down off Lang/Three Fingers into Glacier Bay in that one photo. The walls also have a lot more veg in the cracks than they do in Yosemite. -
I was gonna say, looks more like a debris flow than an avalanche - looks like WSDOT beat me to it.
-
Highway 1 - closed at Hunter Creek due to debris slides Highway 3 - closed at Sumallo Bluffs due to avalanche hazard Highway 5 - closed at Jarvis Bluffs due to landslide Highway 1 - Yale to Jackass Summit - "driving caution due to falling ice reported."

If you guys read the MCR report you'll see it had been -9 a few days ago and was -20C or so on the day, on its way down to -30...

Looks to me like it was preplanned cause they wanted to get a big fall on video.

2-day rainfall for Hope is now predicted as 200mm which is a 1 in 10-year event. However with the snowmelt this could be the equivalent of >250mm when it comes to creating runoff...
