  1. Courteney - the WFR is more comprehensive than the MOFA, and is more practical for the backcountry than an EMT class.
  2. Witnesses to being a bunch of friggin' idiots. Were they in the Mountaineers?
  3. What? It's not fake?
  4. I've never seen it done that way before. Cool.

    Trimming Down

Nope...I still prefer two bivy sacks - in case my partner takes a crap on his, mine is still dry.
  6. I like Britney Spears as much as I like Brody's way of starting the same thing he's bitching about. He might have the record for pasting a Spray Bullseye on his forehead in the least number of posts. That's very admirable.
  7. MattP is right. I think the original idea of tool tubes was valid, but if you have curved shaft tools with rubber handles, getting them in and out of the tubes is a lesson in patience.
  8. Say Yes to Britney Spears.
  9. Nature has a way of self-regulating itself. Once it's sufficiently pissed off with the human race - it'll let us find a way to thin out the population. Some maniac will stumble across an undetonated nuclear warhead and Fed Ex it to the White House or something. Either that or Jesus will return...whichever comes first.
  10. Make sure mine comes with a no-slip surface like on them Therma-rests.
  11. "If you get good weather and site your high camp correctly, you can do the whole thing in one push from base camp. You need to spend some time acclimatizing first." Well yeah...that's how I do the tooth. 8000m peaks: I think it depends what you mean by guiding. A guy can be hired to hold your hand, take care of the logistics and tell you where to stand, where to walk and where to shit. But there aren't too many people in this world who can drag your ass down from above 8000m - and the ones who can aren't "guiding". [ 01-20-2002: Message edited by: Figger Eight ]
  12. TCC offers an EMT course, but like the guys above said, it doesn't offer anything more for a climber than a Wilderness First Responder does. In fact a WFR is more practical for almost all people anyways. One step down from the WFR course is the WFA (wilderness first aid). The MOFA course is a training provided by the Mountaineers - and like all their other courses - is most likely taught by someone who took the class the previous year, rather than someone who is qualified.
  13. Alright Larson, you better not bail. Imagine how much more you would suck if you did.
  14. I agree with the above: success doesn't mean selling out. Arcteryx decided to join another successful outdoor company, not one that makes cheap backpacks and bras (Vanity Fair). Getting bigger doesn't necessarily mean quality will be compromised - Patagonia, Marmot and Mtn. Hardwear are examples of that. I encourage you to take a look at what each company stands for and how they prove it. I'm involved with some non-profits who are at the receiving end of Patagonia and Mtn. Hardwear's generosity. Look at Patagonia's environmental stand and compare it to TNF's sponsorship of a gas guzzler. True - it's all as expensive as shit...but if you pay retail for something, you're just too plain lazy to look for deals.
  15. I use a 9.8 on glaciers which allow me to bring tiblocs and a ropeman for prusiking. If I had to extract somoene, it would definitely be with prusiks though. I don't know too many people who carry big ascenders up with them anywhere in Washington - except for those wild and crazy RMI Guides.
  16. don't forget x-rated climbing routes...I'm thinking of some at Vantage in particular...
  17. Dan - you'll always be my Mt. Rainier climbing hero. Dan Larson sux!
  18. My friggin car broke down...otherwise I might've made an appearance.
