That's why I just take a sharpie and write on the cork.

quote: ...free weights are better then machines. This is because they require you to stabilize your body while lifting so your low back, abs, etc. also get work.Well...not necessarily. Compare a one-armed seated row on a cable machine to a one armed bent-over row with a dumbbell. With the freeweight exercise, you're posting the arm that isn't lifting the weight effectively stabilizing the upper body. With the cable machine exercise, the muscles in your torso bear the brunt of keeping your upper body in position. Another tip for your rhomboids is to imagine cracking an egg with your shoulder blades every time you do an exercise. This completes the contraction.

It hasn't been there for awhile...I second the Owl and Thistle.

That sounds like a shitload of fun Count me in. On a similar note we could do Seattle to Rainier, climb it, then ride home

Oh...I thought that was packing fudge. My bad.

Rhomboids (not to be confused with hemorroids) are the muscles that connect your scapula to your vertebrae. They are responsible for retracting your shoulders back along a horizontal plane (rows) and also assist in pulling in the vertical plane (pullups).

Didn't Hamster Boy Mystic Nacho originally bring that up?

Scarpa/Black Diamond is a lot cheaper in Europe. The Scarpa Invernos are great for routes involving a lot of frontpointing or technical ice, but a touch stiff for walking around on glaciers. -
Dwayner and the Alpine Kitty got called out. This thing has been pissing people off for as long as I can remember. I've gotten some of the best climbing info from here, but I've had to sift through a lot of HORSECOCK to get it. But whatever...it doesn't represent regional climbing - its just a bunch of screw-offs with more time on their hands than they know what to do with. BTW-If you don't know why Dan Larson sucks, you weren't around for the Golden Age.

Sort've depends on the year. Usually February/March is a good time to go. Joe Josephson's Waterfall Ice is the classic guide...I'm not sure if anything new has come out since. Sean Dougherty's Selected Alpine Climbs in the Canadian Rockies will give you the summit routes. Give Mountain Magic a call, or stop in their store. They usually have a list of all the climbs that are in, and what kind of condition they're in. I'll be up there at the end of the month and will post a tr.

I saw his slideshow a few years ago and sat in awe of a man who could show us how far the human spirit can take us. My condolences to his family and friends. What a loss.

A watermelon. -
I heard you can wear while soloing rock routes, too. If you grease off, pull the ripcord and whammo - instant bouldering pad.

They're useful for slogging big packs up big mountains, especially over uneven terrain and scree/boulder fields. I read an article that said they take as much as 20% of the load off your legs. I like the collapsible ones so they get out of your way if you have to bushwack.

Yeah...I've worn it ice climbing too, but it packs so friggin big and is heavy. I still prefer a Driclime jacket and shell. Whatever, though - it's still good stuff.

Arcteryx Gamma SV jackets are great for skiing at resorts. That's about it. It might have more applications in the Rockies or Sierras, but I wouldn't recommend it for the PNW.
