I've witnessed the effects of addiction firsthand. When the board goes down Muffy goes into convulsive shocks within the hour! Tim and Jon claim to do this out of the kindness of their hearts and for the good of the climbing community, but I think I've figured it out... They get people addicted, then Tim makes his money running a 12-step recovery program while Jon mixes up spray withdrawal concoctions (conveniently available in patch, pill, or gu packet form) in the lab and sells them on the black market.

I think the initiation depends on how the poster comes across. Some are timid and just looking for beta or a climbing partner, in which case they are not harassed too much. But then some, like DFA, come out with both guns blazing and meet fierce resistance! And then there is always the possibility that it's an avatar, in which case they are jumped on immediately. And if it's obviously a woman, well, we all know what happens then!
