As if GregW needed further justification for a laser-scope for his rifles! I can see the look of horror on the faces of gapers-passing-by as Greg points his laser-scope equipped rifle at his climbing partner during a typical redpoint ascent... GregW: "Reach for this hold with this hand." Partner: "What if I can't reach it?" GregW: "Do you feel lucky, punk? Do ya?" Partner: "I can't reach it!!!" GregW: "Hold on! Let me just go ahead and shoot you a nice little two-finger pocket intermediate hold, then... Put your hand where you want it..." Partner: "No, no, no!!!" GregW: "OK, right there it is..." Partner: "Nooooo! That's my only hold." GregW: Gun fires. Shot echoes through canyon... Partner: "Aaaaaahhh! OK, thanks. Climbing!!!" GregW: "Climb on! Now put this foot over to this ledge..."

My sister thought she was going to be a climber, bought the gear, and then changed her mind about the whole idea. So, if you're looking for a beginner's climbing package in barely used condition for cheap, this could be it: - LaSportiva Mythos Shoes (size 36) - Misty Mountain Finesse Harness (size SM) - Chalk Bag (ever-fashionable black) - Black Diamond ATC - Locking Belay Carabiner If you're just starting out, need to replace some old gear, or looking to get your honey out there with you, this could be your ticket. An offer in the $165 range sounds about right; of course, will sell items individually as well... If interested, send me one of those fancy PM thingies or an email to jason@craghag.com.

Yeah, I've seen Ray with but one sock as well... If you see a sock in the bushes somewhere, just leave it alone -- sometimes booty gear is not all it's cracked up to be.

I don't know if it would be appropriate for employess to engage in conversations with customers regarding their members like that...

And every time you get in, it asks if you are a member.

Oh, I bet Cavey takes his fair amount of shots!

But if he were clever, he would have made an avatar photo with even more stars... he could have been off the chart!

Sneetches - how appropriate! They beat cc.com to the punch with the frankfurter roasts, too...

Chevy and TNF are going to take it a step further and add a latte holder that can transition seamlessly between the console of the SUV and the accessory clip-in points on their new line of jackets. Additionally, should the battery of the SUV go dead, it will be able to be jump started from the jacket (and vice versa).

If a company operates itself in an environmentally responsible manner, I'm not going to hold it against them. And if the guy who owns the company actually cares about what they are making and how they are doing it, all the better. However, if a company operates itself in a manner that I personally disagree with, then I will hold it against them. I think Patagonia makes clothing that does the job it is designed to do. Dirtbags can abuse the hell out of it, and still look somewhat respectable up on the barstool afterwards. Sure, it's friggin' expensive, but I'd rather buy something once and have it for years than buy shit and have to replace it next season. I actually went to the Patagonia store in PDX last weekend. It was good to drool on the floor instead of the catalog pages!

Military Grade Though incomplete, this route has been over a year and $1 trillion in the making...
-
These are supposed to be route names in response to the political rhetoric as of late, not passages culled from the PMs you've been sending today!

The Right To Arm Bears This is the route to do if you fail to make it to the chains on Homeland Security. Media Spin Though the guidebook description for this route is somewhat vague and incomplete, it does tell you want you want to hear. Praying To The Wrong God You will hate this route, and it will hate you back. Oldschool, so be prepared for runout sections! Nuclear Threat to BioHazard Linkup Inspect the bolts of this route carefully, if you can find them. And for your own safety, try not to ingest the chalk!
-
Teleprompter Though this route has relatively easy moves, it's nearly impossible to do without running beta - even then, you might still screw it up!

I took that test out of a book some time ago and I remember the part about "1% of the population" in my description...

It's already there at the bottom of the Main Index. You can view posts from the last 24 hours, 48 hours, or 7 days (so you can see if anybody missed any Page Tops).

Just goes to show how unreliable conventional wisdom can sometimes be when it comes to climbing!

The first time I went to Smith two years ago I onsighted 10a sport climbs on lead. I spent this year learning to lead trad, and ended the season with a 10a onsight at Leavenworth. Then I went back to Smith, hit the main area, and found that I still lead 10a sport a whole year later. I know I am more experienced, rounded, confident, and stronger than that first time I went to Smith, but I still lead sport at the same level. So, if I were to base my climbing ability only on the ratings, I would have to reason that all of the time and energy I have focused into learning trad seems to have been of little, if any, benefit to my sport climbing. Yet, I feel like a better climber in general, regardless of what the ratings tell me. Trad has been good for the head, and makes me look at things a bit more creatively (I keep coming up with ways to jam a knee bar at the crux of sport climbs and get a little rest when I would otherwise have peeled off). So, to answer the original question, I currently lead sport and trad at the same level (10a), and can follow or TR sport or trad at least a number grade higher (11a/b). Ah, lots of room for improvement!

Yeah, that snaffle is a resilient little dude! I imagine he will live on, just in a more relative sort of way. I'm changing my preferences to show 1 post per page, so every post is a Page Top. No, wait, that's too easy... make that 100 posts per page, making the beloved snaffle even more coveted!
-
As users can now set the number of posts to show per page, will the coveted page top Snaffle be going the way of the Dodo?

So many new toys to play with -- looks like christmas came early!

And to you as well, Mr. SOCM - have a good one! And give my regards to that Trask fellow if you happen to see him around. Try not to slip into a turkey & alcohol induced madness that results in the hatching of some vile plan against DFA! Just stay calm, focus on the cheerleaders, and you should be OK... we hope!
