  1. Please put a helmet on that little cutie. It'd be a shame to see a cracked skull. Head injuries are one of the biggest problems for kids under 12.
  2. Maybe not "fratty" but if you head there on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared for metrosexual yuppies.

    trader joes

May be owned by a Euro firm now, but were started in So. Cal back in the 70s.
  4. Oh yeah...forgot to mention for those of you who like cheap beer that the Ballroom's happy hour ends at 7pm. Have fun. I've got a soccer game to watch on the eastside.
  5. The ballroom has a patio with a firepit. You people call yourselves climbers? All this whining and uncertainty because of a few clouds. Not one in sight right now.
  6. All involved in this case are pretty dumb IMO. Free Breast Exams...Door-to-door? Discuss.
  7. There is a drawing in the Becky guide for the fisher chimney route that is a really good guide to finding the entrance to the chimneys. Way better than just looking for the obvious gully. A few years ago when I was there once we found the entrance to the chimneys we relied on info from someone who'd done the route years before. "If the climbing feels harder than 5.5 you are off route." When the climbing got a little harder looking for the exit to the area below Whinney's slide, we backtracked and tried another way and found the exit about 50 feet up the rock along with a bright orange arrow painted on the rock to help people find the entrance from above on the descent Have fun.

    Stress Relief

    Nice tidy whities there Gary.
  9. There are quite a few threads on the issue. About 6 years ago I had a State Farm insurance agent suggest I stop climbing for 3 years and then I could get a policy without lying. Once you have your policy you can resume climbing and as long as you are current on the premiums they cannot do anything and must payout even if you die climbing. I'm not sure that I would stop climbing just to get insurance, but I've not really climbed in about 20 months due to shoulder problems, so maybe I'll qualify via that route... Although I do have really good coverage through work now so I probably won't.
  10. whether many of the posters on this site were out of high school and then I went to a pub club and found out the answer
  11. Tom - Granite mountain sounds like what you're looking for. Head up via the ridge and there's some scrambling over rocks, nothing higher than class 2-3.
  12. I think West Crack on Daff and Cathedral Peak are my favorites. I didn't really like the Regular Route on Fairview.
  13. Yeah. I can mountain bike again at the Wallace Falls area. I hated paying that fee.
  14. I think Jason commented that it works quite well but uses butterfly knots instead. I've been taught that it is a good precaution for 2 person teams and put knots in, but haven't have the bad fortune to fall while roped up with just one other person so I don't know if it helps. I suppose you could get together with some friends and test out various combinations while practicing self arrest and crevasse rescue. Let us know what you find out.
  15. I watched the start of the race but it was so foggy I had to give up and retire to my netflix pic of the evening..."Easy Rider". The documentary on the DVD is classic and way better than the actual flick.

    Colin

Climbing in Central Asia and South America, as well as some pretty impressive stuff up in the Waddington area and other BC/Alberta mountains last summer. Congrats Colin!

    But Dust...

Thought this little story might make you laugh. I am - - - - - - - "Dear Lord," the preacher began with arms extended and a rapturous look on his upturned face, "without you we are but dust.." He would have continued, but at that moment one very obedient little girl (who was listening carefully) leaned over to her mother and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mommy, WHAT is butt dust?" Church was pretty much over at that point...

Perhaps this is why your friend is probably still single. Or maybe there was more going on during those cold nights than anyone knew.

Just make sure you consider the source of internet advice. No wonder you've got so many posts about women troubles, Mike. I guess cc.com was due for another one of these "I can't find a gf/bf who climbs and gets me" whine fests. Let the entertainment begin. IMO relationships based primarily on a shared recreational pursuit are doomed eventually. It takes a lot more than climbing/biking/hiking/playing chess/or together to make a real relationship work. Having fun together is important, but alone isn't enough to sustain anything beyond that infatuation period.
  22. I have a guidebook to the 4000m peaks in the Alps called " The Alpine 4000m Peaks by the Classic Routes" The author is Richard Goedke and it is published by the Menasha Ridge Press in Birmingham, AL I got it a few years ago when I thought I might be headed over there to climb. I have not used it to plan a trip, but it seems to cover a fairly wide range of the Alps and has history/route info and quite a few photos. I'm going to hang on to this copy for a bit longer, but you might be able to find one if you do an online search or ask a local bookstore to find it for you.
